Yep. That is a very effective way to get out of a full Nelson.

A couple of points that might be worth mentioning:
- Keep your centre of gravity low. Make yourself heavy and difficult to lift by squatting down. This also makes it harder for the attacker to gain the leverage that makes the Nelson such a nasty technique.
- Keep your elbows tucked DOWN. What makes a Nelson really dangerous is the leverage on the head and neck, which can inflict tremendous damage on the upper spine. The attacker gets that leverage by moving his arms up your body. The only way to prevent this is to keep one's elbow's and arms tucked in close to the body.
- It is best to use one hand to trace along the attacker's hand and "feed" the finger into the other hand.
- People with what my teacher likes to call a "vegetarian problem" often find the idea of breaking fingers to be difficult to stomach. The only appropriate response to this is: "the guy just put you into a bodylock that could have seriously hurt you. Go hurt him back, it's only fair!"

In school, someone tried that on me, but I was pretty damn strong since I was still a jacked up farmer. The guy who grabbed me was one of the big brutes who outweighed me by at least 20-30 pounds or so and was a good 4 inches taller. I was about 16 years old and 180 pounds. One of this little posse of bottom feeders was taking shots at me from the front. I managed to grab the guy behind the head, jump and deliver a double foot kick to the little bastard in front of me, which sent him backward, and threw the guy holding me off balance, when my feet came down I curled forward and dumped the guy over my shoulder using the extra momentum. He damn near tore my head off on the way over but I escaped and hauled ass. My neck was messed up for weeks.

Damn I wish modern cell phones were around when I was school age. That shit would have gone viral on the internet. It's not something I would try to teach as a viable tactic or anything but it makes a fun story to recount to people. Hell I probably already did once on this channel somewhere before.

Like your approach with the fingers. Simple and easy lol, your physical body positioning can also be useful for breaking free, at one point in the demonstration you could have put a pretty nice elbow to the temple area(if you have the ability to actually strike with your shoulder this can also be quiet helpful)

How to get out of full nelson in a combat sport where small joint manipulation isn't allowed then?

im not disagreeing with you but can't the attacker just move their fingers and scrunch them up if you are trying to grab them. I remember from when I used to play rugby in a maul they'd try to do exactly the same to get your hand off the ball but i found people just curled their fingers up making it a lot harder to bend them back and hence cause pain. Just a thought
If im wrong and this is a easy as 1 2 3 feel free to correct me

What do you do if your opponent has double jointed fingers, and can't be affected by small joint locks?

What if the hold is on top of your head, your arms forced upwards, and your legs spread out? I see no other solutions than falling down and rolling backwards.

Like this video perhaps someday you could redo it giving more techniques to deal with the full Nelson

You are as a nice guy as it can get! :)

I rather grab as many fingers from as many attackers as I can get my hands, feet or teeth on.

Don't let someone get behind you.

If they got behind you.. you already lost.

The ancient Greeks had a sport that combined wrestling and boxing (pancratium) and initially, there were no rules against what a fighter could do. One particular fighter was winning by grabbing single digits and breaking them. It was very effective and soon banned from the sport - along with eye gouging and fish hooking.

Seems ideal (+) and Bruce Lee actually did that finger/s grab Nelson escape in his "Game of Death" movie within the top tower level of last fight act against Steiner (actor Hugh O Brian) and I was wondering the more protected grip as a full nelson hand over hand to escape, and thanks for that demo Ramsey.
