I also think that 90% of bully owners are wannabe gangsters that get them and treat them like crap.

Moral of the story: Stay away from all dogs that could be mistaken for a pit bull.

I mean, 67% for 3 breeds is still pretty crazy.

I think it's also the fact that a Chihuahua might attack regularly but will rarely cause big injuries and probably never kill anyone. While a Pitbull will kill you relatively easily

Still a breed that has a high statistic. Owners responsibility to know the prey drive, temperment and capabilities of their dog. Just as with any other dog breed. Be safe, your dog is your responsibility.

I’m an animal bite investigator and about 80% of our dog bite cases do indeed come from purebred “bull” breeds and/or pit mixes, with the other 20% primarily coming from German Shepherds, Boxers, Malinois, Huskies, Chihuahuas, and Dachshunds. While, yes, there are multiple “Bully” breeds (Staffordshire, Blue Blood Bulldog, Dogo Argentino, American Staffordshire, American Bulldog, American Bully, and the actual Pit Bull Terrier), they were all initially bred for the same jobs and have the same head structure and musculoskeletal build. You don’t have to guess the breed family half the time because they have the characteristic wide forehead, short snout, ears, and shoulder muscles that most bullies and bully mixes have. People have to understand that you NEED to know the bloodline history of the parents with fighting breeds. You can’t just breed a former pit dog and expect it’s pups to be docile lap dogs, just like you can’t breed the war dog out of a Chow Chow or the police dog out of a G Shep in one or two generations. Bullies are a working dog family and their primary job was to rip people and other dogs a new one in either guard work or pit fighting. They are protective, strong-willed, and not easily frightened. Yes, most pits are sweet as can be because they have been removed from their ancestors’ historic niche, but, just like with any protection breed, they can have a hairline trigger when not properly trained.

While I agree we could be a little more specific when identifying breeds in reports, we have neither the time, nor the resources, to do a breed DNA test on every bite dog, just to find out that they’re either a purebred Pit variation or a mix between multiple breeds in the Bully family.

If you adopt a dog in the Pit family and neither the shelter nor you know the blood history of that dog, understand that you will need to invest hundreds of hours of training into that dog before it can be trusted off-leash. Understand that your dog may not be welcome places because another dog and another owner were poorly behaved in the past. Understand that, while you might not like the stigma, it has developed over decades and for a good reason. Understand that you MUST do everything you can to keep that dog safe, calm, and collected. And, most importantly, understand that if you want the breed stigma to change, you and your dog MUST be good representatives for the breed.

I'm literally looking at the numbers now and it specifically says, American pitbull Terrier. They are not combining anything.

-gives super valid data on why closely related breeds account for a mayority of violent attacks

-doesn't give any statistical reason as to why this doesn't mean they are more violent than usual

Nobody, and absolutely nobody will ever say a labrador killed somebody. Unless they got a heart attack from cuteness 😂
