The Truth About Gender Equality
Показать описание
Comment below with a 💪🏽 if you’re ready to get to work!
This week’s video may feel heavy, but there’s a silver lining, we promise! Before we get into terminology and solutions, we need to first recognize the problem, which is that gender inequality is a crisis that impacts us all. That isn’t an opinion, but a fact.
Billions of girls are condemned to lesser lives based solely on their sex at birth. They are forced to drop out of school far too early, marry far too young and denied far too many opportunities because cultural norms – biases and beliefs – have defined them as less capable, less valuable and less worthy of investment.
The school may exist. The road to the school is paved. But girls that are too educated, too outspoken and too independent threaten a culture in which the superiority of boys must not be challenged.
It’s for this reason that Unicorn Island Fund is focused on challenging and changing culture… through the power of storytelling.
Too often people believe the only way to help a cause is through money. While money is critical (for a variety of reasons we will explain over the coming weeks!), tackling culture is essential. And storytelling is key.
Now for the silver lining. The reality is that every single one of us can be part of the change we need to see in culture, specifically as it relates to how girls and women are seen, valued and treated.
Stay tuned for more on this. And remember every Friday, we’re dropping knowledge. #FridayFUNDays #unicornisland
