It's more complex than women earning 79 cents for every dollar a man makes.

When there is talk about the gender wage gap, often the statistic heard is, “Women earn 79 cents for every dollar a man makes.” While this is factually correct, it does not encompass the nuances of the wage gap. The answer is in the complexity of this problem. Career types and child-rearing duties are both in the equation to closing the gender wage gap.

male stripers don't get paid as much as female stripers...

If they can pay women less, why don’t companies solely hire women?

1. Women work less hours on average.
2. Women are less likely to ask for a raise.

This explains the wage gap within same occupations.

Making less money because you prioritize caring for your family is not a negative thing. We need to respect women's choices in life.
Edit: Another point to this discussion is the data on when women start to dominate a specific occupation rather than men, the wages go down without any distinct reason. There are a lot of moving parts in this debate, and I'm not sure there is an easy solution for everyone.

The question is "how do you make 100k straight out of college?!"

"But why do men still earn more?"
Because, on average, men are a lot more aggressive/assertive with their wages than women. They are more likely to ask for raises, demand promotions, and tend to work in less favorable conditions to better their professional lives. While that's not saying that some women do not do that, many more men on average tend to than women. Also, that bit on women being primary care providers for children goes much deeper than this video can explain. I'll mainly summarize with "Maternity leave hurts a woman's professional life, while raising those children does so even more".

It's not about "Paying women more" as much as it is about "men and women talking equal responsibilities in raising their children"

This is true in a lot of homes. Men feel like the majority of the financial responsibility lies in them. and that results in them having no hand in raising their kids. And women feeling like they have all the responsibility of raising their kids. And no opportunity to persue the career they want.

If we solve this issue, we both win

Company A (a large company) hires six men and four women, all with equal qualifications, and pays them each $65, 000 a year.

Company B (a medium company) hires five men and five women, all with the same exact qualifications of those newbies at
Company A, and pays them $55, 000 a year.

Company C (a small company) hires six women and four men, all with the same exact qualifications as the newbies at Company A, but only pays them $45, 000.

Men: [(6 * $65K) + (5 * $55K) + (4 * $45K)] / 15 = $56, 333 average salary
Women: [(4 * $65K) + (5 * $55K) + (6 * $45K)] / 15 = $53, 667 average salary
Difference: (56, 333 - 53, 667) / 56, 333 = 0.0473
There exists a 4.7% gender pay gap, yet no woman is paid less than the men with the same qualifications working in the same company.
[The math works in reverse too--give Company A 6 women/4 men and Company C 4 women/6 men--and the men will collectively be paid less than the women.]
Numbers can be skewed simply by altering which companies are chosen to compare.

It should be called the _earnings_ gap, not wage gap.

We learn in grade 4 math we need to compare apples to apples. You need to compare men and women who work in the SAME job and who have made the same choices (e.g. no time off, same number of hours, etc.)

I know woman who purposefully took lower paying jobs to have more time with their kids. That's OK, its their choice.

I watched the whole thing before I consider disliking, and this seems interesting. It's not a blatant feminist video saying that discrimination exists against women in the work place, but the video shows actual research and studies as to how the pay gap widens in strict, inflexible jobs because of how women bear children.

Sooo the wage gap is only a thing because women generally work less... Why was this even an issue then?

You legit debunked your own video
Woman pay more attention to kids
And males are more likely to do overtime because they are seen as the provider

If we really care about gender equality, then why focus only on the "wage gap"? There's an employment gap, a workplace fatality gap, an education gap, a mental health gap, and an incarceration gap.

The wage gap has always been comparing apples to oranges to come up with the gap number. People need to learn how to do correct statistics
