I have a night guard and hate it. I intuitively knew I needed my teeth to be together to sleep well -- I was right. One thing not mentioned is that putting a huge hunk of plastic in your mouth, over your teeth, impedes remineralization. Your saliva can't bathe the teeth as it needs to.

My dentist noticed wear on my teeth, and scheduled a fitting for a night guard. I didn’t realize I was grinding, so I started paying attention. Turns out I don’t grind them in my sleep; I’ve been grinding them absentmindedly during the day. Once I realized this, I can catch myself doing it and immediately stop!

I was grinding my teeth for 40 plus years. Nothing helped. And then the most simple thing stopped it completely. Out of vanity to avoid wrinkles on my face I started sleeping flat on my back. That did the trick. Such an easy solution I wish I had known decades ago.

I also noticed the difference it makes to angle my toothbrush in many ways to get the best results when removing plaque off of my teeth.

I had sinus problems, i heard snoring and sleep apnea can cause grinding then i decided to use 2 pillows instead of 1. Also i found sleeping on the left side better than right side. I also got mouth guards but never used it because my mouth was so dry. I have stopped caffeine at night. I have worked hard to sort grinding out and now i dont grind anymore. Plus i do relax my mind and thoughts before sleeping. I hope this helps others. Thanks for all the good dental advice its so helpful.

I was a teeth grinder, my wife is my witness. In 2008 I became a believer in Jesus. At some time after faith in Jesus my teeth grinding completely stopped and to this day I do not grind my teeth any more. All glory to The Living King. Jesus is the best gift ever and forever. -Bryan

The timing of this is impeccable. I was about to ask my dentist for a non-plastic night guard. I had to stop using the plastic one because it causes spotting - no one believes me but it’s true. Spotting first started when I started using the night guard and stopped when I gave it up. I’m in my 40s and in perimenopause.
I disagree with almonds for magnesium because they’re so high in oxalates. Spinach and almonds are top offenders for those sensitive to oxalates.

Thank you, so glad I found your video. I appreciate your deep dive in to this. Somehow when I was given the night guard I couldn’t agree with this method. I was surprised that no exercises to loosen up the jaws were shared with me. No I am not a poor patient, they choose to not educate me with the exercises instead bill the insurance for mouth guard.
This culture of finding constant problem and creating fear to customers is not only unethical but a cheap white coat tactic. Not saying all the doctors but it’s an epidemic of white coat abuse.
Thank you again for making this video. Bravo 🙌

The majority of people with bruxism have sleep obstructive breathing and the jaw shifts and grinds to find a better position for breathing when the jaw and tongue fall back during rest. I think this cause needs to be addressed in concurrence with good mouth care.
Additionally, for some people, they’re finding bruxism has a genetic component that falls on the genes involved with dopamine receptors and neurotransmitters (much like Parkinson’s). It’s a complicated topic!

Thanks for making a video on grinding, Dr Ellie. I don't but I think I do clench some times. It literally wakes me up as I am always so conscious about my teeth. By the way, I want to report that my two children's have much whiter teeth now eversince they started doing your system. Though they are not 100% faithful, it is working. Also the two front teeth of my 12 year old look stronger and no more white spots! He mouth breathe due to buck teeth (needs braces soon) and his two front teeth are weak due to constant demineralisation and constant snacking! But I am seeing great improvements! Thank you so much!!!

Night guards are not just for teeth grinding. They are for TMJ and to relieve pressure between your upper and lower teeth.

Greetings and Happy Easter to all,

Before starting Dr Ellie's mouthcare system, I suffered from bruxism, painful/bleeding gums/gum recession/periodontal disease until I began Dr Ellie's mouthcare system.

It's been a bit over a year, following Dr Ellie's regimen, I am so happy to have a healthy mouth/teeth and the night guard has become a mini paperweight.

Thank you Dr Ellie!! Your system / knowledge has granted me a healthy mouth! God bless you.

BTW, forgot to mention that I said goodbye to my dentist!!!

Thank you for doing this video as I've always wondered whether night guard or not. Now I know what to look for.
