European visitors, you won't be able to visit Quebec City and Banff in the same day. They're thousands of miles apart.

I would add as tip #11 (and more so for Americans): Remember, you're in a foreign country and your laws don't necessarily apply.

I worked as an ironworker in the US for a year, and had to consciously substitute "eh" with "huh" once i did that they had no idea i was Canadian! Until i apologized for stuff, then my crew would point and say "HA! CANADIAN! I KNEW you couldn't keep it up!" Lol

I'm from Ottawa. I went to university in another Canadian city where a met a woman from Edmonton with whom I became great friends. On our first meeting, on hearing I was from Ottawa, she asked if I knew X. Shockingly, not only did I know her, but we were good friends in high school! She'd transferred from Edmonton where she'd lived next door to my new friend and they'd been like sisters. So it DOES happen! 😃

If you’re looking for tips, I would say to be aware of what the weather is typically like in the part of Canada you will be visiting during the time of year you will be visiting. Our weather is very changeable and because the country is so large, there is also a diversity of typical temperatures for each area that will vary throughout the year. So, if you’re in Vancouver in January, there won’t be lots of snow but will be very chilly and wet whereas if you’re in Montreal or Ottawa, bring the warm clothes - boots, toques, gloves, etc. The same goes for July in those two main areas. Vancouver will be warm and pleasant but Ottawa/Montreal will most likely be sweltering. So, educate yourself about the weather and what to bring.

As an Anglophone Canadian, I remember very little of the French I learned in elementary school. I do remember our Grade 3 teacher telling us to never forget the single most important Canadian sentence, though: "Je suis désolé!" ("I'm sorry!") 😂😂😂

English and French have official status in the legislative and judicial spheres of government in Manitoba. Many public services can be accessed in both official languages. French Immersion is offered from K to Grade 12 in public schools in 23 school divisions throughout Manitoba. There are also 24 French-language schools in the Division scolaire franco-manitobaine (DSFM) and a French language university - Université de Saint-Boniface in Winnipeg. Since 1925, the Cercle Molière [Molière Circle] has presented theatre in French in Winnipeg and Winnipeg is also home to Le Musée de Saint-Boniface Museum. We also have agencies like Cancer Care Manitoba, Health Links-Info Santé and MB Telehealth that are bilingual.

Two Tips: Only come to Canada in the summer. We kinda like it when it's -25 degrees Celsius, but tourists won't appreciate.. Though in many places it gets much colder. Tip two, get out of Toronto. Everyone goes to Toronto.. The rest of Canada is so very different then this one over-stuffed city..

What I found hilarious was when camping in July as a child, we saw a car in a neighbouring campsite with skis on top of their car! What was even crazier was they were from a border state (Michigan I believe it was), meaning they probably had similar weather to us! Even in the far north, mid-July rarely has snow.

In Anglophone Canada we learn Parisian French which is pretty much useless in French Canada

From the prairies, I never learned that I was supposed to say "eh" until the book Canajan, eh? came out.

I also tend to use 'sorry' instead of 'pardon' when I don't hear something someone has said or I think I've misunderstood them.

A few years ago some Americans came up to Hamilton, Canada to where I worked to look at some modern equipment we had. After they were finished, they said they had 4 hours to kill before their flight back to the States. So, could I tell them how to get to the West Edmonton Mall. I drew them a map and added that it takes approximately 36h 43m (non-stop driving) from Hamilton to Edmonton. Then, they have to drive back. 😊

1. We don't all say "eh".

2. Hilarious that they make a comment about BC, yet show an iconic view of Banff National Park, which is in ALBERTA.

3. I'm therefore getting the impression that these two must be from Ontario.

I've never been on a cruise, don't feel the need really. I like winter I would not be able to handle the heat in other places, I can't even handle our own summer, lol. Expect questions, we love to learn about other places and things. 💙❤

It doesn't surprise me that you're very polite. After all, Canada was largely settled by British folks and there are a ton of Scottish surnames here. We even have Nova Scotia or New Scotland!

I'm 70 and never learned French. I took it in school one year but didn't retain any of what I learned. I find myself saying 'sorry' and 'excuse me' so often. There is a traveling Mountie show where its all on horseback, I think.

Rule #1 he says don't use "eh" incorrectly then as an example says "you're Canadian, eh?" which is technically one of the ways 'eh' can be used correctly.
