Headless Snake Strike

PLEASE READ

I didn't kill this snake. It was in a friends yard close to his childrens swing set. He blew its head off with a "3 duck load. 5 hours later I get it home to skin out. I had a rude awakening when it struck at me when I was attempting to skin it out.

In GA, venomous snakes are not protected, non-venomous are. This is a timber rattler. Very common thought-out all of GA

Two observations
1.without head snake shows self defence with muscle memory
2.even though he knows snake doesn't have head, he back off with fear memory of human.

Striking with such precision without a head is incredibly disturbing.

It’s really interesting how without it’s head, it was still precise on its strike.

Snake's nerve system is still a huge question to me.

Not only does it obviously feel pain, but it is astonishing that it somehow still knows where to strike.

I’m from Phoenix, Az and still live here so I have had interactions with rattlesnakes before because I grew up in a area where our backyard was the desert preserve. Snakes are not everywhere like most people think. They are actually difficult to find. You have to either catch them in the early morning or when the sun is setting. But when a snakes especially a rattlesnakes head is cut off don’t think that the head can’t get you anymore because that’s just a lie. They will definitely strike when they have no body. Just be extremely careful when handling any type of snakes.

The thing that gets me is it's still aware it's being touched I understand the random movements like muscle spasm but to be able to react to pain without a brain is confusing to me

Muscle memory is trippy as fuck. Frogs will still hop, turtles and fish will still swim, and some animals will even run with no head. Fucking amazing.

Just like his natural instincts kicks in to avoid a bite from a headless snake, the snake has the same muscle memory 😅

Years ago, my friends and I were at some river drinkin beer sittin in innertubes. Upstream you could see people found something floating in the water. Then after a few minutes hear the girls scream then laff. Then it float downstream and the process started all over again. We were thinking wtf is that thing. Then it floated down to us. It was a rattlesnake with its head and rattle cut off. When you tried to pick it up, it would strike at you. I dont care what kind of nerves you got, when that thing strikes, head or no head, you're gonna jerk. Its the psyche that does it.

The precision of the strike with no head is insane lol

The snake reacts because its spinal cord acts almost as a very primitive brain and has similar functions almost programmed into it. Nice vid.

The fear of Rattlesnakes is so embedded in our DNA the dude knew it didn’t have a head, knew it was gonna strike anyway yet still jumped 🤣😂

What's amazing is that it went straight for his hand without seeing where it is

Because of the snakes slow metabolism, it’s nerves and muscles continue to work after it is beheaded. It absolutely still feels pain.

This reminds me of a kid in elementary school that used to chase kids around with his stump arm

Remember bear grylls saying you should always cut off the head even when they are dead.

how is this possible, the brain and body is communicating telepathic ? That's a real man for you❤

You know what's crazier than the rattlesnake's reaction? The fact that you instinctively jumped back when there's no threat of being bitten 😮
