The first clip of the snake jumping to bite the guy’s leg made my body take a screenshot…

Short story. A friend of mine killed a rattlesnake on his way home from The sawmill to eat lunch. He cut off its head and tail, gutted it skinned it and put it in a bowl, stuck it in the refrigerator. Sat down to eat his lunch when he heard a clank clank from the refrigerator, and his daughter opened the refrigerator door to see the snake wiggling out of the bowl, daughter and mother went screaming out the front door. So my friend had to pick it up put it back in the bowl when he did it struck him in the wrist, no head just a stump of meat and it struck him in the wrist. Snakes have the strike response in every nerve in their system. Local Indians say a snake doesn't die until the next morning.

Moral of the story: stop attacking snakes.

Pretty crazy an animal can just pop his tail off when hes scared. Imagine just pulling your arm off and throwing it whenever someone wants to fight you

That last shot of the severed head trying to strike is, hands down, one of the creepiest and most fascinating things I have ever seen.

I remember when a ranger from Yosemite was bitten by a rattler after his dog attacked the snake and bit its head off, the head flew through the air and struck the rangers hand and bit him, the poor fellow didn't survive.

In military survival training, being that snakes are edible, I recall learning to bury the head is the only way to make a venomous snake head safe

I heard a story about a guy that cut off a snakes head got bitten and because of that it basically released all the venom to his body and dude went into a coma and barely survived

Decapitating a snake is probably the least humane way to kill them as they have a low oxygen requirement they can live for quite a while without a body so instead even though its more brutal smash its head with a rock or stab its head

You don't decapitate a snake you cut off its legs

I stopped last year on a gravel road to cut the tail off a Prairie Rattlesnake that had been run over. It's head was smashed flat and was 'one with the road.'😆 when I grabbed the snake's tail, it IMMEDIATELY started rattling.

Even venomous snakes are practically harmless as long as you leave them alone it does them no good to bite you

It is sad that people cut their heads off in the first place. Just leave them alone and it will leave on its own.

This is why we cut the heads off the rattlers we have here in the S.W. & immediately bury them. They're territorial & we've had dogs bitten & come close ourselves so we "dispatch" them for our dogs & our safety. As a kid my Daddy showed us this fact by demonstrating it to us & he put the head in a bucket & it still responded many hours later after its decapitation. They're nothing to mess with! But the very best defense against Rattlers are King snakes & we do everything in our power to encourage their presence on our rural property. King snakes also control the rodent population & help prevent the spread of the Bubonic Plague & the Hanta Virus. So if Y'all live in the country & see King snakes crossing the road please try to avoid running them over bc they're our buddies & help keep us safe in several ways. Once again God knew what He was doing, NO doubt!

It's kind of sad seeing that snake that way. Could you imagine being decapitated but remaining alive.

I leave them alone for the most part, but I also have a small child and a dog that run around freely in my back yard. Can't risk them stepping on it and getting bit. I try to move them but some of them try to be difficult and refuse to let me scoop them up so I have to shovel them. I'm not proud of it, but if it's a snake or my child or doggo, it's gonna be the snake 20 times out of 10

I had to kill a huge rattlesnake in my yard ( I have 3 small kids and didn't want to take the chance of it nesting or some shit near my porch. My daughter actually almost stepped on it ) I ended up burying the head so no accidents would happen.
It's so crazy how that person though the snake cut in half wouldn't strike back. It still had most of its damn body .
