My pet peeve with Godot and GameMaker are the proprietary languages that don't have use outside of the game engine. If you want to develop real programming skills it's less ideal to do so with GDscript and GML.
GDScript is not Python therefore you can't use Libraries (ex: from PyPI)

I'm happy to see that the support for other programming languages (such as C#) in Godot is improving. And I think Godot has a bright future! I would be happy to review my opinion in the future. :)

Godot also has first party support for C# though.

yep custom language lack tooling and packages specially like if you are going to create a language like python why not use python user will be able to use python code editor tools + packages to make their life easy
