I'm so against Apple that I refuse to use any product with a "Mac" in their name.

I started using Emacs about 2 years ago. I was just curious, why a 45 years old software is still used today. For me the killer feature was the tendency of it to consume every other piece of your workflow and putting it under the same interface: I started using dired for file system navigation, TRAMP for remote editing, magit for git, etc... After a while I dropped python and bash as my go-to for making little tools, and started to write them in emacs lisp. I built a little sanctuary for myself. I can't really describe this, but it just feels right to have the emacs interface for everything. Before emacs I could not build this consistent interface for my workflow. That's why I will probably stay with it.

Don't know why you consider emacs bloated...

Fun fact: literally two years ago, when you started "convince me to use it" competition, I decided to try Emacs myself. It was you who pushed me to do it. Still using it lol. Definitely better that vim

The "Emacs Ideology" makes a lot of sense.
Why have many interfaces for text-based tasks, when you could have a single, uniform interface for all text-based tasks?
You use 15 different tools with "vim bindings" like zathura, lf etc for your text processing tasks, meanwhile us Emacs users have a uniform interface and uniform keybindings for all these tasks.

Luke: Emacs is a cool way to do what you already do.

I think the reason why emacs feel like it is its own operating system might be, because it came from or was at least heavily inspired by the lisp machines. You can look up demos on how these lisp machines worked and for me they feel like booting into a variant of emacs. These people who were used to that workflow wanted to reproduce this workflow on other operating systems as well. So it was ported to work on other systems. That is also why it is so redundant. Because they ported all the things that you would usually do in a Unix environment differently.

Emacs is an OS! If a company forces you to work on Windows, you just bring your OS with you.

One of the most practical things I got out of Emacs was extending my use of Vim bindings. Using evil-mode, I can now use these keys in all that I use Emacs for, and the list is growing.

I've just given up on the editor war and decided to write my own text editor.
