- Game Description -
Dune: Imperium is a game that uses deck building to add a hidden information angle to traditional worker placement. It finds inspiration in elements and characters from the Dune legacy, both the new film from Legendary Pictures and the seminal literary series from Frank Herbert, Brian Herbert, and Kevin J. Anderson.

As a leader of one of the Great Houses of the Landsraad, raise your banner and marshal your forces and spies. War is coming, and at the center of the conflict is Arrakis – Dune, the desert planet.

You start with a unique leader card, as well as a deck identical to those of your opponents. As you acquire cards and build your deck, your choices will define your strengths and weaknesses. Cards allow you to send your Agents to certain spaces on the game board, so how your deck evolves affects your strategy. You might become more powerful militarily, able to deploy more troops than your opponents. Or you might acquire cards that give you an edge with the four political factions represented in the game: the Emperor, the Spacing Guild, the Bene Gesserit, and the Fremen.

Unlike many deck building games, you don’t play your entire hand in one turn. Instead, you draw a hand of cards at the start of every round and alternate with other players, taking one Agent turn at a time (playing one card to send one of your Agents to the game board). When it’s your turn and you have no more Agents to place, you’ll take a Reveal turn, revealing the rest of your cards, which will provide Persuasion and Swords. Persuasion is used to acquire more cards, and Swords help your troops fight for the current round’s rewards as shown on the revealed Conflict card.

Defeat your rivals in combat, shrewdly navigate the political factions, and acquire precious cards. The Spice must flow to lead your House to victory!

I disagree with your guest. Uprising and Bloodlines were created with the benefit of hindsight. There's a lot of balancing issues with Ix, and a balanced game is essential for replay value. If you want to get the most bang for your buck, Uprising alone or Uprising+Bloodlines is definitely the best option. You're buying one fewer expansion and getting far more competitive value as a result.

There are a few techs, like Holoprojectors, which add a unique element that are missing from the Bloodlines set. If those are sorely missed, they can easily be added or subbed in.

I actually dislike shipping in IX. Everyone just compete for shipping in IX.

Damn, i didn't know about the Arrakeen Scouts in the companion app. That's huge! Thanks for pointing it out - very helpful!

From all Dune Imperium stuff, the thing I like the least is the research track of the Tleilaxu research board.
I really dislike getting arbitrarily positioned bonusses for going up an abstract track.
If they were variable every game I could see some fun and tactical adaption.
But as it is this track is just much tooo eurogamey in a game that doesnt feel at all like a typical eurogame.

If I could just leave aside this board and only olay with the additional card market (I really like those cards), I would play more often with that expansion.

Great video! Love more Dune Imperium content. What card sleeves do you use?

I think your guests analysis of bloodlines is more than fair bit off the mark. especially to the commanders. commanders increase the ability to compete for combats for leaders who are focusing on building their engine. one commander alone isnt going to give you much benefit, but once 2, 3, or even 4 skills are activated by a single commander their value dramatically increases to a point that they cant be ignored. anyone who has played 5+ games with commanders should have no problem seeing their potential in this regard, expert or not. they are clearly a force to be reckoned with.

one other thing im surprised i didnt hear mentioned (unless i missed it) in your piece on bloodlines is how the contract mechanic received several new supporting pieces in the forms of cards, new contracts, and techs play a more prominent role in the games ive played. pursuing contracts now feels like a much more viable and interesting path to victory.

If I am seeking a relatively more casual game, it seems like base imperium plus Ix is best Or do I skip both and just get uprising?

Hi, question: where did you get the card sleeves for the intrigue cards? I’ve been looking for them for a long time. Can you give me a link where I can order them 🙏🏻 - Thanks

So, I have base + Ix. I'm going to buy Uprising soon, and I'm trying to decide if Uprising+Ix is a good combo at all, or if I should grab Bloodlines right away for a better enhancement to Uprising.

If we buy this in the order you recommend, we'd have base+Ix and then get Uprising, and we may never get Bloodlines... Does that mean you recommend combining Ix with Uprising (at least, parts of it), or just that you recommend Uprising with no expansions above base+Ix?

Will you be playing ascension tactics inferno?

I want to buy Dune but seriously can they do things more confusing. Firstly, Should one buy Dune imperium or should I buy Uprising? Secondly, what expansions work work wath game. The video helps but still abit confused. And thirdly and the most important, what combination of games and expansion is the most fun, repayable and balanced? Think I’m leaning towards Uprising + bloodlines…. OR the Base game + IX and immortality 😮

No. I did not know there was a companion app.

Dang. I knew the video was longer than we'd thought, but I didn't realize it was 45 minutes. This was a lot of fun to do, though.

(Especially since I didn't have to do the editing 😂)
