Love this line- an unexpected but killer outro. It gives Jessica a complete arc as she recognizes that Leto truly loved her, just as Paul truly loves Chani. The parallels!!

AND....AND in the book Chani even asks Paul if she should leave him for the sake of the political alliance. And Paul puts his fingers to her lips (to shush her up) and tells her that Chani and Paul will always be together...

Don't forget that Paul also had a 3rd "wife" after he killed Jamis, he was honor-bound to take care of Jamis' mate and offspring, effectively becoming her new husband according to Fremen tradition. Her name was Harah.

“Chani, in the second part of the book, kind of disappeared in Paul’s shadows. The character becomes less interesting, ” Villeneuve said. “But I thought there was a strong opportunity there to create a character there who would give us a new perspective on Paul, in order to get closer to Frank Herbert’s intentions.”

I also love how they say that Irulan will have plenty of time to write, when throughout the whole book many of the chapters begin with selections of Irulans writing on Maud’Dib. That cracked me up when I first read it

Paul would subsequently treat Irulan with the same contempt that he treated his subjects. People tend to misunderstand Herbert's intent. Just because Paul is the protagonist doesn't mean he's not also a villain. It's just that his enemies are villains too.

It's meant to be a hollow consolation though. If you notice in the book that some of the fictional books are by Princess Irulan. So it's kind of a "history written by the victors" thing where Chani and Jessica will never be remembered as wives because Irulan has written their story.

I was sad this wasn’t maintained. Always loved this particular aspect of their relationship.

Facts and Irulan hates Chani for it, in the books she even secretly force feeds Chani contraceptives, Chani is forced for leave to seek a remedy for her infertility and away from Irulan is how she manages to finally conceive her twins. However, the contraceptives that Irulan has been feeding Chani weaken her and she dies after or during childbirth, I can’t remember rn. Anyways, even after Chani is dead Paul still doesn’t want Irulan, even though she raises the children as her own, pauls love is and will always be Chani.

Irulan deserved better, but at least she was immortalized through her true love of writing!
