RTX 4080 at 3GHz - Should you Even Bother?

The RTX 4080 performance in gaming benchmarks is already impressive out of the box but what happens when we overclock it to 3GHz and beyond? Well against the RTX 4090 performance things might start to get interesting but the real competition here is the RTX 4080 vs 7900 XTX and that won't be answered yet.

3080 $699 RRP
4080 $1199 RRP
Buying this card sends a message to Nvidia this is ok. This is NOT ok.

can you do it with a 4070 super? internet is packed with newly launched gpu's but they're hard to find on msrp so people with not so older gpu's can enjoy

And after 2 years Couldn't hold back, and considering the on-going prices, I managed to order IGame GeForce RTX 4080 Super Ultra W OC 16GB-V for USD1K, and am kinda happy, kinda because I was hoping to get 5070 Ti for <USD800, as an upgrade to my 3080Ti.

The 1% low between the 4080, 3090ti and 6950 xt in 1440p and 4K is very even

This is a little late but when u spoke about how people are wondering why someone might want to run a game like csgo at 600+ fps it actually gives u an advantage because of lower latency and the game just feels way smoother. I have a 160 Hz monitor and I can easily tell the difference between the game being capped at 160 fps and the game running at over 300 fps. Thats the reason why most people (pro and not pro) still play the lowest settings possible eventhough they have a top tier card and could easily run over 300 fps with max settings. 6 Months late but maybe helpful in the future ;)

Fast forward now the 5080 is just 5-7% faster than a 4080 at $1600 since retailers upd the price. Now suddenly the 4080 at $1200 is a bargain and hard to find.

There is no game that's optimised great and demanding that pushes a 4080/90. all the games that run games bad, even on those monsters, are unoptimized. That's what the person meant who said the 4090 isn't pushed. remnant 2/Alan
Hellblade, Ark, Silent Hill, Alan might get updated still to run better and silent/cyber/star wars, which might get updated to run better. I haven't played any of these well, except Remnant 2, which I haven't played much because I'm waiting for more updates. I had that game since 5 months ago.

Those gpu temps are impressive but the graphs didn't have the ambient temp.

Guys be mindful of the CPU, the 7700x is a huge bottleneck for the 4080 and 4090. I'm by far getting more fps with my 4090 then his review posted. The same will go for the 4080

I love my 4080 yea the price is high but people payed the same or more for a 30x series when the supply was low..

This is why I purchased pre owned. The pricing is ridiculous and I refuse to give any of these companies money for their off the shelf products.

A DISGRACE of a 1 -1 %/$ improvement is NOT an improvement... ANYONE buying this is wearing a badge saying 'Yes, I really AM A MORON'. A genuine disgrace and a little proof of shilling if ANY reviewer recommends this. Seriously, if ANY reviewer recommends this, you can now take ANYTHING they say as 'paid advertising'.

I have a Gigabyte 4080 Eagle, upgraded from a Gigabyte RTX 3080 Turbo 10gb, non LHR version. Difference is night and day at 4K with all settings maxed out, RTX 3080 would struggle and would be hot and noisy as hell going into the low eighties with all fans at 100% including my case fans. The RTX 4080 doesn't break 60 degrees C. I'll be interested how the card will perform in an Australian summer with temperatures over 40 degrees C for a week or two in January - February. The extra 6gb of Vram over my old 3080 makes a considerable difference to gaming benchmarks.

I've had both AMD cards and Nvidia cards. To name a few from AMD 5700xt, 6800xt, 6900xt I can tell you the 6000 series has had the most instability for me with random crashes over the year of 2021-2022.

From Nvidia I've had 3070 ti, 3080, 3090, and now the 4080 and I must say the drivers are much more stable and polished than the AMD software.

If you have tried and owned both for years you know what I mean.

I have both Intel and AMD flagship cpus, 10900k + 5950x respectively for 2 different machines and they're both great cpu companys but leave the GPU tech to Nvidia.
