$1199 Nvidia RTX 4080 Founders Edition Review - How Much???

Sadly the RTX 4080 doesnt come anywhere close to the pricepoint of the 3080, and in a cost a living crysis we think Nvidia has gotten the naming and the pricing of these cards totally wrong this time. Performance as youll see is on point and its goes exceptionally well, but we feel this should have been called the 4080 Ti so that the $1199 price tag felt less of a kick in the teeth.....

I have always went with the __80 cards because they gave the best $$$$ for performance but not anymore!! This is way too expensive and it will only get much worst once the scalpers get there hands on them. I don't play any games that have RT and I game at 1440 so it looks like I'll be moving to AMD with my next build. At least you can still get good gaming at a good price with the Red Team!!

Great chat as always... a big hello from Portugal with my "cheap" 3060...

Might be a founders edition, but the scalpers on Amazon will put it out of reach for most of us. So tired of the pricing games, that a few weeks ago I found a 3080ti for just under $850 in U.S. dollars and went with it. Very happy since I'm upgrading from a 2080super.

I think you are the only one to properly discuss this, so thank you!

I whole heartedly agree that they have the wrong name for the card. Every single other reviewer is complaining and comparing directly to the name. If not for that, everyone wouldn’t be losing their minds as dearly. We also knew prices as they are with everything are going up.

They should have just done:
4090 -> 4090 Ti
4080 16GB -> 4090
4080 12GB -> 4080

And whatever is above the 4080 16GB should be a 4090 Super.

Then everyone can calm the heck down about the comparison of names that could literally be called anything. The price is still outrageous but, it’s still a very good improvement all around.

In the US, the 3080 price at launch was $1800USD+ (eBay, because this was a scalp only avaialblity item for a year). If the 4080 price at launch is similar, I don't see what all the hub-bub is about. Same price, much better performance. Buying new within a year of launch 30 or 40 series cards at MSRP is as likely as winning the lottery or winning a new lambo in a raffle. Sure, that is possible, but not probably in the least. There is a new frames per dollar scale that we need to adjust to, complaining will not change that?

Today I noticed that the hotspot temperature on my 4080 FE reached 77 degrees. Do you guys think it's too much? What was the highest you've seen?

I've always loved your videos. But man the graphs suck to look at. Hardware Unboxed probably has the best graphs. But go with Horizonal left to right works much better with text at the very least..

I don't want to offend my poor dog with these prices.

Looks good - though should cost half as much…

I think the 13900ks or 7950x3d would be the best update to the GPU test rig.

i dont think it should be the 4080ti, cause the core count is way too low for that and the 80 has plenty of room for more cores and rams, so i expect the ti to have 10k+ cores, prob around the 11/12k, dunno about 18/20gb ram but maybe. cause there was quite a few of the missing on the board that der8auer took apart, so maybe we'll see a 20gb ti.
ps, you dont talk too much and i would like to have had a noise level review from you.
cause again, der8auer complained about very uncomfortable coil noise from it.

If AMD puts a half decent product on the market with good pricing, they should be able to take a big chunk of marketshare.

Love your honesty Guv, cookie dough icecream, the reason Nvidia are in the shit they're in is despite knowing the mining boom was going to go bust they got greedy and made way too many 3000 series cards, and now they're stuck with them so they're pricing this thing high hoping people will go, fuck it i'll just by a 3090/Ti instead, or like you said they'll just go up in price and give the arseholes at Nvidia even more money by buying the 4090. I agree with you people should WAIT and see what the red teams performance is then make an informed decision before purchasing.
