In this video, I explain the difference between guilt and shame including how guilt can help us improve our lives but shame can hurt our self-esteem and keep us from improving our lives. Most people use the terms guilt and shame interchangeably, but they're really different from each other in one key way that is described in the video.

If we remain stuck in a state of shame, we are more likely to think the problem is our own lack of self-worth. Shame can then lead to anxiety, depression, hopelessness and worthlessness. However, if we are able to learn more helpful self-talk and focus on learning from our mistakes instead of being overly self-critical, we can improve our lives.
