And Alex being a costume technically means we have another female fighter! It's not Lara Croft, but it's a start.

This trailer got me hyped! I’m not a huge Minecraft fan, but I’m looking forward to what they do with the characters.

The “characters” in Minecraft never did it for you because they aren’t supposed to. Steve is a player avatar who’s just your vessel into the game. He has no personality. He isn’t a real character. He’s just a default skin that the player can change at will to anything else.

The reason why we’re all excited for Steve is because it represents Minecraft, a game a lot of people love, in Smash, and the physics/gameplay of Minecraft will be completely unique in Smash.

I'm happy I'm old enough to actually be happy to see such a weird character in Smash Brothers, because I wanted more weird characters like Game and Watch. I wanted to be surprised with choices that celebrate gaming. And I'm not jaded and cynical enough to be seething with anger and disappointment because le funny meme block man "took up a slot" as if certain characters were "owned" a part in Smash Brothers.
I didn't really want this character, just like I didn't want Joker, or Hero, or Terry or Daisy or Pichu or Lucina or Byleth, etc, etc. BUT I ended up playing the lot of them and loving them as characters. (except Daisy lol).
If you're so disappointed that your day was ruined by Steve from Minecraft, take a deep breath, look back at the whole situation and tell yourself "It's just a game, not worth ruining my day over it".

I think Steve is similar to Villager in some ways. As in he's basically a default avatar and isn't really a character. And is job is to represent Minecraft as a game in Smash more so then to represent Steve himself. Kinda how Villager does with all the items from AC he uses.

The day before the direct, me and my friend joked about Steve getting in, saying how cool he would be and getting excited for the remixed songs and stage, both silently knowing it wouldn’t happen. Then I got home from school one day and I saw about 25 pings from that friend in discord and I thought “no, it can’t be...” and then I saw that Steve was in and we were both absolutely overjoyed. I haven’t really cared about any of the characters in the dlc so far (because I am baby), so I’m so glad to finally have a character that I know about to have gotten in, from one of my favourite games ever!
