No sound, no blood, no gore, still one of the scariest movie scenes ever.

Underrated part of this scene: when the reveal happens and you see the leg. There's no big banging music. Theres no screaming from the character. It's simply the chilly quiet theme and a gasp. This movie deals in a subtlety that other "scary" movies could learn from

I grew up on a farm out in the middle of nowhere in Georgia, and I was 19 when this movie came out. Rented and watched it alone in my parents' place, and boy was that a mistake. I ended up checking every lock and window in the house before I went to sleep, and even then couldn't shake that feeling that someone was 20 yards outside the house watching.

I really think one of the reasons this movie was so scary is because of just how realistic it seems. Completely plausible scenarios and phenomenal acting.

The most unsettling thing about this scene is how he’s possibly surrounded by multiple aliens and has no idea until he sees the foot

The wind picking up after he sees the leg is so subtly terrifying.

I love the nuances in Mel Gibson's acting. Notice how when he exits the crop circle the stiffness in his body when he steps back and turns around to leave. He tries to act tough but, this small detail sells his level of fear so well. Mel Gibson is such a great actor.

The most unsettling thing about this scene is the look on Mel's face at 2:48, after he yells out at people that he knows are truly not there. And that awkward backwards walk to follow as you can see the increasing horror on his face. He knows he is completely alone in the middle of a crop field with one or maybe more of those monsters. I think he knows it before he even enters the crop field. You can hear a slight trilling sound before he even goes in as the dog starts barking more aggressively.

Who in their right mind would walk out into a corn field, by themselves, in the middle of the night, with nothing but a flashlight?

The thing about this scene that startled me in the first three or so viewings was the dog jumping at Mel. The dogs a protector and is going nuts enough that it goes after the hand that feeds it. I didnt expect it that crap. It Also sets a very uncomfortable tone for the rest of the scene. The viewer gets a taste of hostility before Mel even goes into the crops.

Is it me or when he's in the circle, can you hear some of the aliens silently doing their noise within the crops, or even moving around, but silently? That's just creepy

underrated part is when he scans the circle with his flashlight and you see the beam of light, then when it passes over where their ship is theres no beam, then when it passes on the left it comes back

Signs is a legitimately excellent film with phenomenal acting, terror, and well-thought examinations of faith, while capably presenting entertaining catharsis.

I believe Signs was very effective at putting people on edge or scaring them because it was effective at making people imagine being in the same shoes. While the scene has been parodied since, I am sure people would be pretty disturbed if verified footage of aliens showing up around Earth was shown on TV.

Just saw this movie for the first time with my nephew. Amazing acting, soundtrack, and overall vibe.

To the uploader: Thank you for uploading this. This clip is what inspired me to watch the film. Thank you for keeping a piece of cinematic history alive!

3:41 That’s what I find so scary with the aliens: they blend in perfectly with their hiding spot by being perfectly still and you only notice them when they move. Same thing with the Brazilian birthday party recording and the coal chute scene.
Also, I kinda like that his first reaction when he sees the alien leg is to sprint out of there. In most scary movies, you have your typical dumb protagonist who goes straight into danger. This guy’s all like “Nope, f*** this, I’m out!” lol

I think why I still love this film is that i can still go back to it and have this feeling of dread. The scenes in the house where there is no close family bonds and then looking out the window and knowing that something is off but cant figure it out. When the dogs are freaking out and even the crickets arent chirping
