When I first got my house I was in my mid thirties. ARMS mortgages were big then and they would try to get me in some big ass house worth 200-300k i passed on that. I went for a 2600 sqft home for 145k (now appraised for 300k) I owe 20k on it it will be paid off before the end of next year. I’m in my mid 40’s now. While my friends at the time either had to sell their homes or they still have over 30 yrs to pay it off. Do what’s comfy for you. 🤘🏾🤟🏾🙏🏽

I was approved for a mortgage but after long consideration I chose to continue to rent for now until I have double my down payment for repairs. I am a Property Manager and I see the amount of money it takes for emergency repairs. That alone wasn’t worth the stress for me.

Facts. And also there are home buyer programs who can make home ownership more affordable. I am 26 and purchases my own through NACA. My mortgage is cheaper than my rent. The program took work! And discipline. But I have no regrets.

I’m a renter and my rent is higher than some mortgages and I’m responsible for all utilities including water and responsible for maintenance and anything that goes wrong so I said I give this situation 2 years but I’m saving and looking into at least purchasing a mobile home/ land and purchasing low enough to where enough is left to add to a savings just for housing.

The most important part of most peoples retirement plan is to have as little of a "housing payment" as possible. This is usually achieved by paying off a home, so that you then only have taxes and insurance to pay for - which will add up to much less than what renting any place will cost you.

I needed to hear this. I'm currently in college, working, and living with my parents. I'd be lying if I said I didn't cry feeling like I'm behind on this journey. I'll have my associates in the next year and to "catch up" Im thinking about joining the military. Idk, but lately I've been feeling like I'm getting on people's nerves depending on them sometimes🫤
