Struggling with Negative Thoughts? Watch This! #shorts

Показать описание
During times of uncertainty (Hello 2021 - and basically all of 2020 for that matter!), it’s all too easy to become consumed by negative thinking patterns.
As humans we have a negativity bias which is a cognitive distortion that leads us to pay more attention to negative stimuli and become consumed by negative things (including things that originate in our minds)…
And when this happens, it can become really challenging to know what to do. It can impact your sleep, your relationships, your overall mood and your ability to function, not to mention your health (both mental and physical).
It’s also very easy to start to feel like you are ‘CHOICELESS’ - that you’re POWERLESS to do anything about it. You feel like you don’t have any control, and this can magnify feelings of overwhelm, frustration and anxiety.
One strategy to help you feel a greater sense of ‘power’ over your life and your thoughts is to shift your thinking to WHAT IS WITHIN YOUR CONTROL. What’s within your sphere of influence?
And then, of course, you take action.💪
Now, this doesn’t mean you deny what you’re experiencing. It doesn’t mean you distract yourself and never face your emotions. It simply means acknowledging your state, but not ‘becoming’ your state.
Taking action could mean asking for help. It could mean seeking professional support. lt also could mean speaking up at work, going for a walk when you feel overwhelmed, deep-breathing, prayer & meditation, taking a nap, setting a boundary…
By reminding yourself that you DO have power (and priming more of an ‘internal locus of control’), you will start to FEEL more powerful, and action can help you manage and navigate through your experience.
What do you struggle most with when it comes to negative thoughts? 👇
