The first person killed during the course of building Hoover Dam was J.G. Tierney. Mr. Tierney drowned on December 20, 1922, while surveying in the waters of the Colorado River. Exactly 13 years later, on December 20, 1935, the last man who died was Patrick Tierney, his son.

I’ve been all over the Dam from top to bottom. Inside and out. You left out the most incredible fact about it….it leaks. In the inside of several of the lower floors, water runs down the walls and gets collected. It’s been leaking from day one and when your on very bottom floor, the leaking is serious and will make anyone nervous, but it gets collected and gos somewhere. Engineers have told me the leaking is controllable and not to worry, but it’s utterly fascinating and totally terrifying.
