My mom recently signed me up for a ✨meeting with the bishop✨ and didn’t tell me until THE NIGHT BEFORE. I was so fucking stressed and was having panic attacks all night. I had to go to this stupid meeting where he asks if I want to renew my temple recommend where I (a LESBIAN which my mother KNOWS) had to tell my bishop “oh I’m at the age where I’m trying to figure out what I believe in.” He gave me verses to read and told me to pray. Like I’ve FINALLY found out the horrific truth about the church and I WANT NO PART. Too many creepy old men taking advantage of people in crisis or people without someone who cares. LIKE A CULT. It’s just scary to think about all the poor people who’ve been hurt and had it covered up by the church. 😭

I had a temple interview at 17 years old (was not a virgin) and I thought God would be even more upset if I lied so I told the truth. Then my bishop said that I needed to provide details to him to be able to fully repent. I said no, walked out. I told my parents years later and they said it wasn't his fault, I probably made him uncomfortable.

Most bishops don’t ask or aspire to be bishops. They are basically picked and asked if they are willing to volunteer to do it. Being a Mormon bishop is quite time demanding, probably an additional 20 hours of work per week. You’re assuming that all men who are asked to do this are perverts and not honest people just trying to help others find spiritual guidance and direction. Not all men are sexual predators, in fact the vast majority are not. For all the women who have felt abused by their bishops, there are hundreds that thanked God for their help after some of the worst experiences of their lives.
