Spacetime bends to create gravity. I don't think modern science has separated space-time as two different things altogether. Also people are already time travelling to future. You just have to travel at high speeds. For them it will be time travel!

Time Travel is very dangerous because the Earth is spinning, and the Continents are moving. if we leave to travel trough time on land in a safe place, either to go into the future or the past we could end up in the ocean or inside a mountain or in another country that could be hostile to us when we reappear. I have always wondered when I heard stories of Sailors on ships out at sea seeing strange craft coming and going out of the ocean, if these were time travelers that miscalculated their arrival place.
