Before you do a clover lawn dont forget to make sure if clover is native to your area! If it isnt i'd suggest getting a local equivalent as it'll be better for your environment and easier to maintain

A little hint. You might want to consider putting them a little closer together. They look like the perfect distance to turn ankles. If people don’t see the edges because of the clover, a heel can go into the soft dirt and over someone goes!

Great idea - learn as you go ! So many helpful hints here posted already-
By laying them straight on the soil they will move they need a stronger base like a slurry or crusher dust - like I said learn as you go thats part of the fun of discovery and owning your own home. Most of all enjoy the process of your DIY. 😎🇦🇺

Just a little tip! We have the same thing at our yard turned out it’s NOT nice when it’s raining and there will be mud everywhere and may be slippery! Put a small rocks between them and along the way so that the rain will be drained into the ground immediately and it will be like a frame.

Such pretty stepping stones! Glad you were able to rescue them & that they were so many you could create a full path! Waiting to see the final results!

I did the exact same thing, almost. Found all sorts of random stones and pavers on my property, sorted them into piles, pressure washed them then created areas in the back garden with them. Gave all the extras to neighbors!

The examples of hobbit inspired paths are literally just normal paths where I live 😂

Wild violets make an awesome ground cover for hobbit/fairy paths.

I love 🍀 clover-cover landscape. Our front yard is clover. I love when it is in bloom. I grew up with clover as a great cover. It was mostly planted in a quarter of our pasture. The cows loved it so much. Especially our milk cows. The clover was so wonderful for their milk.

Just a little fun fact…not sure where you live, but clover might seem super nice as an idea, but in the fall and winter it’s literally a muddy disaster. Make sure that’s something you’re willing to put up with cause all that water and poor drainage can really suck for your foundation ✌🏼❤️

Creeping thyme would also make a beautiful ground cover between the rocks! There are many different varieties to choose from, but be careful! Some can be rather invasive!
But when you walk on it, that beautiful scent wafts into the air!

(Sounds "Hobbit-y" to me!) 😅

Clover can be invasive you might also want to look into natural native plants there's a lot of ground-covering plants that are beautiful even flowers and other greeneries

The first time I saw clover is covering the ground it was like a fairy tale in California in the redwood forest it has huge clovers covering the ground at least it did when I was a teenager and it was so beautiful.❤

You could also do creeping thyme along the sides or an alpine strawberry (some are safe for low foot traffic ❤)

We planted a micro-clover and grass seed mixture years ago over four inches of organic compost and our lawn has been lush and beautiful! We only water when necessary (no rainfall), one inch per week, and also installed a DIY sprinkler system w/ timers. The clover nitrogen fixes the soil, so we don’t need to fertilize the lawn as much. Bees love the clover (& I do walk barefoot all the time)! I wouldn’t seed a ‘lawn’ with only clover, unless it’s used primarily as a cover crop to keep down weeds and prepare for planting…
