This is what diversity is. Enjoying stuff from other cultures. Not forcing stuff that doesnt belong there

I love how the media said Wukong lost millions of players within hours. Yeah, people went to sleep.

Can't wait for idiots to call Black Myth Wukong "Dead game" after a few months when almost everyone has already completed the game and moved on.

Wukong cost about $40m to make, Concord cost between $50-150 mil to make lmao

Wukong: Proof that even the most diverse character can't satisfy the diversity police.

Almost done with chapter 3, wukong feels like a mental vacation, away from the slannesh influences that other companies are trying to convert you.

Crazy how Wukong added its haters into the game as an early optional boss.
(blue big headed baby that throws a tantrum when its attacks fail and it gets hit)

It's funny how Elden Ring, Terraria, etc. now B.M.W. are all top of the leader board and none of them have microtransactions.

The devs shared yesterday that the game was supposed to have upto 13 chapters. However, due to their lack of self experiences and resources (nums of devs and money...), they had to cut it off, maybe they'd submit them through future DLCs. They also noted that they will try to fix certain major bugs (invisible walls, ...) soon

The fact that a Chinese game developer transcribing an influential Chinese folk tale into the video game medium is triggering the overly sensitive, PC cancel culture vultures is peak irony. This is many peoples first exposure to this story, and it’s hugely successful. If celebrating diversity and honoring other cultures was actually these peoples goal, you’d think they’d be happy about a game like this.

Technically, it's not really about Journey to the West. It's what the developers think would happen after Journey to the West, hence the opening line "my master, safe; the scriptures, sound." All the original developers are Journey to the West enthusiasts, so enthusiastic to the point that they'd have hundreds of hours of arguments over what they envision would happen after the journey even off-work even just as friends instead of colleagues, given how their own understanding of Sun Wukong as a character differ. Also technically, it's not their first game as they made their first game Asura (The Victorious Fighting Budda/God), which is an MMORPG also under the setting of Journey to the West, at Tencent before they quit the company when they realized they'd never creat the game they really wanted at Tencent. From Black Myth, you can tell how much they love the story and the characters and how much love and care they've poured into this. Ironically, the Tencent game Asura, which used to have a lot of potential when it was first released more than 10 years ago, is completely in the dust now despite still running at the moment.

*Edit
A small fun fact: Tencent is actually a shareholder of Game Science, but only 5% under the specific clause of 3 NOs, aka "not interfering with decision-making on how the studio is run (不干预运营决策), not trying to be the dominating force/voice throughout the entire the project(不抢占项目主导), and not pursuing the marketing/monetization right of the game (不寻求发行运营). Guess as former employees, the developers know too damn well what Tencent would do to their beloved game if it's a majority holder.

*Edit 2
I think one big reason this game is received so well, at least in China (you gotta understand Chinese gamers are super duper critical of their own Chinese games too, just look at some of the most poorly rated games on Steam), on top of the fact that it's a good game and also arguably the first China's original AAA game, is the rebelliousness and free spirit embedded in Sun Wukong and some other characters (Red boy, for example) throughout the game, unlike the original Journey to the West where it's more about how they are being tamed and disciplined. Chinese young adults need to feel that sometimes somewhere even if it's just in a video game and even if they still need to drag themselves to a 30-floor office building at 8 a.m. the next day. And don't ask me why I know it because I'm one of them.

Chinese here, on the last opinion Asmongold had I will respectfully disagree. With few following reasons:
1.The social recognition of 'video gaming' is still at least a controversial topic here, so I would not assume any goverment funding going in the gaming industry diectly.
2.Even in the gaming industry, before the Black Myth it is very very obvious that investors prefer moblie games way better than any PC/console only game, let alone an 3A title.
3.The leader of Game Science released a social post on the day the game released saying that 'the main topic we had in the studio this year was on how to reduce the difficulty and lower the entry bar', so my biggest guess on those air walls would be caused by this aspect.
Nonetheless, thanks for the subjective attitude as always Mr.Asmon. Hope everyone have a nice time playing this game.

Black Myth Wukong proves that staying faithful to the source material is the recipe for success.

Edit: I seem to have misused "faithful" in this instance. Thanks to all who clarified it❤

I played Black Myth Wukong for 12 hours this weekend. It is an easy 9 out of 10 combat RPG. Packed with exciting boss fights, superb combat, and fun builds.

I hope that wins the game of the year just to spite the journalists. It probably won't but a man can dream though, a man can dream.
Edit: wow I didn't expect my comment to get this many likes I think this is the most likes I've gotten on a comment ever

I just finished the game at 41 hours, the amount of variety I experienced is insane, I've missed some secrets I think. But man, I just love that the game is not bloated, like so many games these days. This game has more variety than most 100 hour games and thus did not overstay its welcome.

"Black Myth Wukong has no diversity"

Me: There's literally a boss named "Non-White" and "Non-Able" in the game!

Why is it a big deal that a lot of players are from China? 64% of steam users are running the steam client in Chinese anyway

What i find hilarious is how a lot of dragonball fans only just now learn that Goku is heavily based on Wukong after they played this game
