I installed conventional p traps. Easy to adjust. No leaks. 3 sinks. Installed 25 years ago.

I've install hundreds of the cheap systems and never had any of the issues you describe. In fact, my kitchen has had the cheepo for 32 years without issue.

As many others have commented, I disagree. Much simpler, easier and future foolproof if you just run a straight line out of the wall and glue on a screw thread onto the end. Then use the cheap thin plastic P traps. My cheap thin plastic P traps never leak. I've had to cutoff the glued on P traps when remodeling bathrooms. Luckily had enough pipe showing out of the wall to glue on more pipe and add the thread on end piece.

Honestly, I totally enjoyed this no nonsense video. Straight to the point and no hype. 👏
Best wishes of success to you always. 👍

I have the super cheap p-traps installed on two sinks with no problem. I'm starting to think it's user error causing your problems.
I am more than capable of installing the way you describe with Sch 40, but there is no need.

I still have the same cheap "crap" P-Traps I installed 36 years ago in my kitchen & 2 bathrooms with zero I never even thought about them after all these years until I watched this video.

Thanks for this idea! I couldn’t seem to get my crappy ptrap to not leak, so built one out of abs as you recommend and seems to be watertight.

The heavy duty pvc p-trap u are talking about tends to leak more at compression joint because there is no rubber seal unlike Oatey p-trap that has rubber seal. There is not way Oatey p-trap leaks unless u did something wrong. FYI: Oatey also sells heavy duty version on p-trap.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING!!!! I have had crazy issues with the first one. I will replace all with the heavier PVC

Oatey P Traps are fine, they come with rubber gaskets and I’ve been installing them in my own homes for 25+ years. I once made the mistake of using a cheaper brand that came with clear plastic gaskets and those started leaking in a matter of days. Went and got the Oatey p trap you show here and it’s been fine since. DO NOT tighten with a wrench, you probably cracked yours doing that.

Don’t listen to this guy…. Use the smaller one but they sell two types…. One for $5 and one for $15 … buy the one for $15 that comes with red gaskets on all connections … works great and easy to use

This is a useful suggestion to use heavier duty pvc. But I have to agree with many other comments here that I have installed many of the thinner p-traps and never had any problems with them leaking. I find them to be remarkably adequate. Instead, most of the problems I've encountered happened elsewhere, such as clogs related to small sink pop-up stoppers, or further down below the floor with old piping that may have been improperly installed many decades ago such as horizontal runs that are too long, or old cast iron pipe that tends to collect clogs.

Where did you Get the heavy duty P trap?

Would this be ok on a bathroom sink / drain? The tailpiece for the sink is 1 1/4, but the waste pipe is 1 1/2 so it should just glue right up. Also, what do they call the piece that connects to the sink tailpiece with the thread and nut? Thanks! Great video

I use pro dope on the threads an I never have any problems.

Yeah but you have to reduce and I increase and sometimes you dont have room. Yes there's more room cause uts schedule 40. If you install the other stuff correctly its not a problem

The metal jpipe under my kitchen sink doesn't leak...it has eroded into a big hole. Yikes. Can I use a plastic and/or pvc when reparing and replacing this piece with the metal pipe remaining? Thanks

The cheap bathroom style piping in 1 1/2 flared on the ends but is not a true 1 1/2 inch throughout.

I had a problem with these thicker p traps in my kitchen with a bit of an odor. By going to the smaller p traps it was fixed.
