Workout Advice for Older Men (STARTING AT AGE 15!!)

Get strong, ripped and athletic at any age here

People look for workouts for men over 40 or workouts for men over 50, etc. Is that really the right mentality though? Does something change so dramatically that would force you to have to pick up the “old person” workout instead of the ones being done by somebody half your age? Well, if you allow your mind to believe that and you’ve allowed your body to follow then maybe. That said, I hope by the end of this video you will have a much different opinion on the right workout for men regardless of age.

To illustrate the errors in this thinking just remember back to when you were a child. Do you remember how you used to be able to bend over and touch your toes with nearly perfect hamstring flexibility. How about being able to squat all the way down to the ground and back up without the slightest joint discomfort or mobility issues.

The problem is, that as we age we stop doing the things that kept us feeling young. It’s a case of “use it or lose it”. If you don’t continue to do the workouts and exercises and simple daily activities that tested your physicality, you will lose much of the attributes you gained from doing these things.

I used to have to jump a fence to get from one class to the other at college. If I didn’t, I would have to walk all the way around the campus and it would have made it much more difficult to get to my next class on time. During a single semester spent off site at an internship I took a hiatus from fence jumping! The first time I jumped after coming back months later, I felt as if my ankles would give out and that knees and hips felt a ground reaction shock I hadn’t felt in a long time. I didn’t use it, so I lost it.

The same thing happens with your workouts and training as you age. If you stop doing things in your workouts because you allow yourself to get too tight or you sacrifice your mobility, then you are only making it harder on yourself to regain those attributes the older you get. In order to feel young and fit forever you have to not only make sure you are continuing to do the things that make you strong now but that represent every facet of well being.

A complete approach must include balance, mobility, agility, strength, flexibility, and even mental toughness and a resilience to aging! Don’t simply accept that you are getting old because a number tells you that you are. If you stay active and fit you will continue to be strong, ripped and muscular despite what you have been told you should look like “for a man your age”!

Remember this. Nobody ever grows old merely by living a certain number of years. They grow old by deserting the things that made them feel young in the first place!! Now, get your ass back to work son! #GAINS4EVER

Trained all my life in one way or another just because I enjoy it. At 74 I can still jump over my bench. I just did it to make sure I could. Not as strong as I used to be but still enjoy it. Good video. Pay attention everyone. He knows his shit.

when I was 7 months old, I could kick myself on the face and suck on my toes. It's been all down hill since then

When I started watching these Athlean-X videos, I was 203 lbs...I’m at 171 lbs today from following the free workouts posted and following a proper diet. I’m 49 years old and have not been in this good of shape in about 20 years. Really a tremendous channel. I still have a ways to go and plan on continuing improving my health and fitness.

I RARELY ever comment on videos. THIS GUY IS THE REAL DEAL.
i have been in the gym since i was 14 1/2 years old until today at 51 years old.
Never used roids or any cheating substance. I don't take vitamins but only a protein shake now and then, along with eating clean like this guy does. . It is best to keep it simple.

There comes a time even when in the rare 1 percentage of people on earth that adhere to health and training hard as a life style; where we feel bored with training but still we get up and do it. I admit, i have been bored after so many years of training lately. But this guy got me going again when i found his videos!

I put my own twist on his workouts but over all the super set or one giant set to failure is what seems to be key for me. I am back in the gym and still in shape close to Jeff as can be for 51 years old.

Thanks buddy for getting me excited to train again!….keep showing the world how to do it right with fast but hard training until failure..eating clean and being consistent…., unlike the rest of the trainers on utube that don't know how it should be done.

If you don't thumbs up every dam video this guy puts out.. you are just a lazy ungrateful soul. LETS GIVE THIS VIDEO 20 THOUSAND THUMBS UP in appreciation!

I started a regular routine at age 54, two days a week. Over the last 3 years I have stepped it up including the AX program for the past 18 months and I am now 63. I improve a little each year but you have to work at it. Developing consistency was the most important for me. From there I built upon it and modified my diet to get it much healthier then it has ever been. I would never go back.

WHAT JOY! ! ! ! ! ! ! I a bladder cancer few months ago but followup shows I am clear. Prostate was taken out and so I've lost the ability to ejaculate. Diagnosis of cardiac issues and hypertension. But I started watching Jeff doing the body weight exercises...and last week I got two sets of 50 lb weights that detach in 5 lb increments.I had joined ATHLEANX before the cancer. How do i move to the next level.I'm so so encouraged by Jeff's words.

God bless you, Jeff! Perhaps you hear it often, but you do make a difference in people's lives. Very rare in this world today. Also, your YouTube videos offer more information than virtually 99% of paid services out there. Thanks for all you do.

Jeff, I really love this video. As I look at my 60th coming up soon, several people accuse me of having a late- (or mid-) life crisis, they tell me I'm already thin, etc etc., and so I shouldn't bother. It's all a rationalization for their giving up, or for laziness. It's tough to politely ignore those comments (I don't want to lose friends), but I keep plugging along. I do it not just to look good, but also to ward off diabetes, heart disease, and other ailments so many of my peers have had for a while now. While I'm not nearly as athletic as you, I watch your posts every week, and you are an inspiration for me. Thanks for all you do.

Well said Jeff, I'm 40 and I am more ripped and stronger and fitter than I was when I was 20.

Jeff, ten months ago I could not do 5 push ups. Now I can do 30 at any given time. I have the start of a 6 pack and visible obliques. I had a heart attack and a triple bypass at 47. Luckily for me only 2% of my heart muscle was damaged. The doctor said keep doing what your doing and you will be back in 10 years for more surgery. I changed my diet drastically. I lost 30 lbs. from diet alone. 10 months ago I joined a gym and have drastically improved my fitness. I'll be 59 this week. It's been 12 years now and the doctor wants to cut my heart medications in half because of my improved fitness. My main goal is to be physically active in my twilight years. I tell people today "if you want to run up 10 stairs tomorrow, run up 20 stairs today". Be your own hero. Everyone owes it to themselves to stay fit, especially as you get older.
I look to your videos for truth, knowledge, and function in exercise. Thanks for all you do Jeff.

I'm 50 this year, I have SI Joint problems, disk issues, lower back muscle problems, both knees, right ankle, both shoulders, I've been hitting the gym 4-5 days/week pain or not and I'm now in the best condition of my life, regardless of the injuries...!

Absolutely correct!!! I'm 70... and for the last four weeks I have been working on getting my shape back. I discovered Jeff about two weeks ago and have be following his programs and I am losing fat and gaining muscle. Twenty years ago I used to run the crest of the Sierra, and this year I am going to do it again. While all my peers (and former high school classmates) are either thirty to fifty pounds over weight, or in wheel chairs, or dead, I am making the decision to do this fucking thing. All I needed was someone to show me the trail to follow, and I can follow it. And for all you kids (at this age, most of you ARE kids to me) keep at it. I've got a goal (Run the Sierra) but I refuse to stop there. Behind that goal is a bigger one: to get in the best fucking shape I've ever been in in my life!!! I may not have long to live (anywhere from thirty years to thirty days... who knows?) but I am going to enjoy them and bust my balls making my body into what I WANT it to be... Namaste,

I'm 62 and just started the Athlean Zero program. I can already feel a difference in my balance and flexibility. I was just walking for exercise due to a complete hip replacement and personal apathy. Jeff, you have me fired up to get into great condition so I can once again enjoy the physical activities I have abandoned and miss. Thanks!

Great encouragement. I started working out routinely at age 43. I'm about to turn 60. I'm a regular at the gym - helped by many of these videos - mostly about form and concentration. As a test of my fitness, I took the first nice day this Spring to climb a near-by mountain trail - 2.5 miles up a steep incline. Sure I got winded at first, but then my body settled down. In less than 2 hours I had completed the climb and back down. Great leg day. No limits on this old guy.
