My ex is a covert narcissist and caused so much damage that 5 years later I am still trying to heal and break free from the trauma. Covert narcissist in my opinion are the worst because you truly get fooled into thinking they are not narcissists so you question yourself more when things get ugly. The trauma bond makes it hell to break loose and to stay away. This is like a fight for your life💔

Honestly, the Narcissist we have to deal with fluctuates on any given day/bender.... mostly between grandiose (name dropping, taking second mortgages on her house to send ONE of her two daughters to an exclusive private school, eg.) and covert. There's a sprinkling of malignant in there (forgery, eg.) for a little spice, I guess. I'll call her a Neapolitan Narcissist. 😉

I've encountered a lot of malignant narcissists in my life who were covert as well. I thank God everyday that I'm alive because those kind will either push you to suicide or kill you themselves.

I was blessed because he couldn't manipulate my family and he couldn't not even believe my friends they never would believe him because they love me too much so he did all the damage to me then when I did go to my family they were shocked because the person they knew and everybody in my neighborhood that he was the greatest guy in the world but now they see who he really is.. I thought it was quite funny that when he tried to smear my name around my neighborhood they came and told me and they said we've known you for too many years we know you're not that type that he was crazy.. I was blessed so he knew that I was loved in my neighborhood so he slept with the trashy girls from my neighborhood.. lolll he's coward his his family.. what I love the most is that he sent me a picture he looks totally horrible and he's getting so old. And so ugly..God prevails always ❤️👍💪🙏

What would you call a narcissist who pretends to be a celebrity online, loves bombs you in the beginning is very very convincing to the point of almost having to be an actual person in their close family at that celebrity to know their whereabouts, comings and goings. Who is also married by the way, and a relationship is going on 2 years come March 2023. He shows all the classic signs of and has drained me dry just about but I can't let go....I've been totally I love the whole time, in for the first year and a half he was too it's only the last 6-months it has started being alot different where he's truly being hurtful with words.

You really have to feel a bit sorry for these traumatized individuals who feel entitled as adults because they were the lost child growing up. Not willing to share feelings or any in depth conversations about there family, diversion for there survival. I really want to know what happened to him but he will never let it be known to anyone!!! He is now 67 years old, all alone, paranoid, and his life is pot! In denial of being an addict.
For me I have been attracted at first to the Covert type. Groom you, spoil you, always want to pay for everything and when you do treat them they show no real appreciation because they feel undeserving! It has been an off and on rollercoaster for me because I have empathy and sympathy. I avoid getting involved with any man now at almost 68 years young, I feel 50 and enjoy being single!

Ms. Zung, Thank you for your goodness in humanity to reach out and help others through awareness. In my situation it is an ex husband who is remarried who cannot stop his narcissistic behaviors. I am not sure if he is a malignant or covert narcissist. I do know that he was extremely spoiled with toys and attention from his mother at the expense of his other siblings growing up. I do not think he has ever been told no. He has taken my now husband to court several times at the cost of approximately $30, 000.00 dollars. Yes thirty thousand! He would claim pro-seh (sp) and we would be billed at the rate of $200-$300 rate an hour. He has made a mockery out of the court system in Oregon. My daughter is now 15 and will not talk to me. Unfortunately he has taught her to lie and manipulate but he does claim to be a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. His inability to behave in accordance to even his religion is a reflection of the hypocrisy bubble he continues to live in. I have not been able to see my daughter in over a year and a half. The courts have not said no, only parental alienation at every turn of the seasons. Regardless of the typology of narcissism he has some control issues that he tries to project on my spouse and I. Thank you again.❤️🤔✊😷😉🇺🇸👍☘️⚖️

I have been waylaid by all three of the Narcissist personality types. My mother is the Malignant and than I married two different overt narcissists, each for ten years and had a child with each. With all of the time and money spent in therapy at no time was this information ever shared or pointed out until the very end. I did not understand it well enough, however; because I am just getting out of a three year relationship with a covert. narcissist. The devastation I experienced and unfortunately am going through again was/is so absolute it is a miracle I am still above ground. The ending of my second marriage was a custody nightmare because he flipped everything he had done to me and our daughter around accusing me of the insipid actions he committed. It worked like a charm. He then took our daughter out of state and I have barely been able to see her or talk to her for ten years. She just graduated high school and is still so fearful of disappointing him will not freely engage with me. He told me if I did not take him back i would never see her and I did not believe him.

I think there’s one Narc...but expressed in different ways...covert, malignant, somatic, cerebral etc...the professional ones know how to jump from one to the other...the most fearful ones maybe stay in one or the other...

They are the worst people in the world. They get all of their value from competing and putting others down. Whereas the normal and better way would be to actually learn things and become the best possible version of yourself.

My ex is a combination of all of these. He’s smart, intelligent, successful, and everyone around him loves him yet he has worn me down spiritually emotionally. While I have been there to support him emotionally, physically, etc he has gotten more successful in his career. I have been trying to finish school. Only one semester left and he has threatened to contact my school and everyone I know to smear my name. He hasn’t done it and I think it’s more threat than action. Regardless I’m trying to get ahead and helped support him get ahead and he now could careless. These people are dangerous. So sad how deceptive and how much damage they cause.
