After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of TOPGUN graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose”.
Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.

Took my Dad to see it lastnight we are both huge fans of the original and fighter jets in general. Absolutely blown away by this film. It hit the nostalgia feels well especially with the resonating opening scene flash backs the OG sound ttack. The cockpit and flight cinematics were groundbreaking and exhilarating at times. All round just a fun film with all the excitement and emotion needed for a flick. Want to take my wife for a second viewing lols.

Just got back from the first showing tonight in IMAX and all I can say is I love this! As someone from the 80s who loves the original I was smiling throughout the whole movie. Nostalgia done right again.

Agree with all of this! Saw it last week and was shocked how good it was even though I went in with high expectations. The story is gripping, the characters are people you care about, the aerial scarves are astonishing. Going tomorrow night for opening night here in the uk to see it again. Can’t wait!

Taking my mom to see it as a Mother’s Day gift. I liked the concept of the first film, but I didn’t grow up with it so I honestly found it rather subpar but I loved the characters

definitely love that it progresses the story rather than try to recreate what was done before. i honestly just sat in my seat at the end credits cause of the music playing but also cause i didn't want it to end. even though we only got a glimpse of these characters and got a portion of their personalities, i didn't want the movie to end in sheer longing to see more. i just didn't want it to end.

Got to watch an advanced screening over the past weekend (it pays to know some that work in a movie theater. LOL). LOVED IT. At first, the first 20~30 min. is basically rehashing the original. I was wondering why many critics were praising TGMaverick? Then, for me [personally], the latter 3/4ths of this action-packed sequel busted the tower!
Specifically, when Maverick is texted to visit a certain someone's home. I admit I was teary-eyed. Then, from there on this film really takes off! You dont have to watch the original. But it really does help with your connection to this awesome sequel. That dogfight scene in the 3rd act!

This movie reminds me of the Rocky franchise. Goose dies, Apollo Creed dies, both of their best friends go on and teach their son in pursuing the same activity that their father did. Rocky and Maverick act as mentors to Creed and Rooster.
