Seriously y’all, don’t do this. Me and my dad built a whole new bed and put expensive potting mix in it… only for it to get garlic rust. We had to replace EVERYTHING

It might be small and underwhelming but it got a damn good personality

I need my grocery store to step up their game, every head of garlic I buy starts sprouting within a week 😂

I got my garlic from a local farmer's stand. It all grew beautifully! Just another reason to shop locally and support local farmers!

The thing to do is start some store cloves in a decent sized container, if those cloves make it through with no issues then you can plant from those cloves even if smaller at first. If the cloves exhibit diease its easier to toss the soil and container and it hasnt been in your main garden area. Aslo important to clean tools, gloves etc until you determine its fine.

I use organic grown in USA, never had a problem planting those, including elephant garlic. Just be sure to plant only the big cloves. The smaller cloves will produce small bulbs.

My store bought garlic always grows like gangbusters. Even if I don't plant it 😂 it's a very determined plant.

I just used some organic grocery store garlic, and mine are HUGE already. I left some of last years cloves as starters for this year, and I had tons of shoots pushing through the snow. They did quite well last year, and all I did was buy a single large clove of garlic that I split up over my planter box. Then I harvested in October of last year. I got a jumbo freezer bag of garlic that I used for a while after. So my advice is, just buy some organic, and have fun. It really wasn't much more expensive that regular garlic.

I've planted garlic from the grocery store for YEARS. Never any issues. To each their own.

I’ve successfully grown cloves from the grocery store. Planted in the spring harvested in the fall. They were fine. It was soft neck garlic. I also have a hard neck garlic patch of some wild variety. It grows fairly large bulbs and is way more potent than grocery store garlic.

I grow enough garlic so I have extra to replant in the fall. I harvested about 80 bulbs last summer. I saved the 20 biggest bulbs for my "seed" garlic and planted their cloves early October. That leaves me 60 bulbs to use over the winter. I grow porcelains, once properly cured they last up to 9 months in storage. Then the garlic scapes are ready to harvest in late June and we use those for cooking until the actual garlic is ready to be harvested early August.

As an amateur gardener who just bought my first porch greenhouse I appreciate this info. Just purchased some organically grown bulbs. Thank you!

I had to pause at the end just to admire that awesome ink work. Props to the artist, I love the natural plant and insect motif!

I did grow green onions from store bought ones. Sorta by accident. I had place them in water to try and get more green from them after I cut them. Which worked and I use that for a while. But then I notice that they went nuts with roots. So I planted them. Bear in mind that they stayed in pot and didn’t mix with my other plants. But damn those things grew huge. Much bigger and than my seed grown green onions.
