At 13:32, the house with the tower, was where my 37-year old nephew and his family of four were staying on vacation and all got away safely. Praise God!

As painful as this must have been for you to do I thank you for bringing it to crystal clear reality. I didn't think my heart could break anymore than it has but this made it all too real and it's shattered.
Maui has been our families big vacation for the last 11 years and we always looked forward to the sense of peace we would feel as the island would come into view as the plane began its descent. We would walk out and just take the time to shed mainland life, breathe in the island and let the stress go.
Our daughter loved to go to the banyan tree first, jump black rock next and then go sea turtle seeking. It was what we did. She died in 2019 at the age of 23. Two years ago we came back not knowing what we would feel being there without her. And although it was hard, very hard, but the paha ohuna of maui settled into our souls and helped, ever so slightly, heal our wounded hearts.
To you and all the beautiful people of maui, thank you! Thank you for sharing your island, your home and your invaluable words of wisdom with us.
And now it's time to return what you have so generously given.
As this unbelievable tragedy unfolds and as your hearts shatter as you process what has happened please know that we are on our knees sending love, light and all that we can back to you. We want to be on the ground helping but have been told that anyone other than locals would just be in the way right now. We are watching and as soon as possible we will come and give back in any way we can... one brick or board at a time.
When i saw the news of the people coming together neighbor helping neighbor strangers helping strangers I knew i was feeling what maui is. In these crazy times, yet again, maui gave comfort from half a world away in showing the world the way it should be when the unthinkable happens.
I'm so so sorry this happened and still find it hard to process but i know your collective strength will get you through this. I hope you can feel the love, the embrace, the energy from us to you as you journey through this.
Stay strong when you can and break when you must.

I don't believe this was a normal fire. Just looking at this footage it looks like a kaboom went off and not some 'brush fire.' This footage looks eerily similar to the Paradise fire. This is devastating.
