Doctor I have hemachromatosis, and want to know what I should avoid to keep my iron levels low in food, it seems like everything I eat has iron on it.

Well, when I was about 5 1/2 yr, I was so anemic that (my mom told me) courts gave me to her because I had about a month to live, "if he lives, it'd be a miracle". Now that I'm 46, and been donating plasma, I've seen that my iron has been upper side to to high. I've learned that lots of noodles, nuts, rice, and so on, has jacked the iron up. Been trying to figure out bout getting it lowered. Coffee don't seem to do anything to help.

Hey thanks, I watched bc I have hemochromatosis and looking for natural ways to reduce my iron. I am dairy intolerant but I will be thankful for my coffee and eggs! I also have Crohn's so several dietary challenges but seem to have a good diet diary going. Thank you

Thank you for this info, these food will help me to slow down the absorption of iron . I love coffe soya wallnut bread and dairy product but I also loved grassfed meat which is high in heme iron. I have minor beta thalassemia where we have an iron overload from red blood cells that dies early but Im doing something like this to reduce the iron intake. For those iron deficient best source is red meat because it has heme iron and if you combine it with vit c rich food it absorbs fast. Thats why I avoid puting lemon on my steak.

What if I eat Bran Flakes that are iron-fortified? They do have wheat, but have iron in them (50% of daily value per serving)? Does that count as a good source of iron or the wheat would impede the proper iron absorption?

What about tannins in supplements like Bilberry extract, does that lower iron?

Does calcium work with iron in any way? What about magnesium? Will that block iron absorption?

Hi doc! I'm so glad you mentioned febrile seizures in relation to low iron because that is exactly how I ended up here watching your video. My son (2) has not yet been tested for low iron because I have been told be numerous doctors that there's "no proven relation" to febrile seizures and low iron, but I have heard many parents with children with febrile seizures say their kids were deficient and when they upped their intake the seizures stopped. Do you have resources you can share with a parent who is just tired of hearing "febrile seizures are normal, he will grow out of it". While I know that is true, I'd still rather be able to help him not have as many as I can!

My iron levels are normal by my doc but she said my saturation is at 54% how do I lower that saturation? I eat very balanced food. No processed foods no dyes, no added sugar. Idk why my iron saturation is so high. But also I don’t eat wheat. But eggs once a week and haven’t drank milk in couple months! What type of milk should I drink, if it will help lower iron saturation!
