i work at a pet store and i straight up tell people that all of the "hamster" cages we have are terrible (and so are pretty much all of the small animal cages) and i always show people tanks instead or tell them about bin cages but some people still try to argue with me bc they think the crittertrail cages are cuter 🙄 like im sorry but i didnt know you were buying a decoration i thought you were buying a pet and im not going to sell you this animal if i dont think you'll actually care for it properly

I just got a hamster a week ago (named Gus aka Gusy Bear) and when I bought the 40 gallon breeder my fiancé felt personally victimized by the size. He insisted that I was being dramatic & that if I was getting a big tank that I could either get two hamsters or divide the tank. He believes that because Gus is small (he’s a Robo) his home should be too. I told him that I would hate to live in a closet and that I’m sure Gus would too. He still thinks it’s ridiculous no matter how much info I show him 🤷🏽‍♀️ as long as Gus is happy idc lol

I hate seeing those small hamster cages in pet shops because people who don’t do much research are obviously going to buy them instead of getting a more appropriately sized cage. Pet shops need to stop selling them 😩😩

Your hamster is adorable by the way 😍

I absolutely _hate_ it when I see people coming out of Petco with a Crittertrail and pine bedding!!!! Why would they not research how to get their pet before they get it?!?

Screaming for this video. I try and tell everyone this. The minimum tank needed is 30-40 gallons with a ton of bedding. thank you for making this video- it’s going to inform a lot of misinformed people. Taylor dean with her mouse, she uses a cage and it makes me cringe. I know not everyone knows, but it’s so sad to see all the information floating around about their care. Mice and hamsters are very similar when it comes to space. Thank you!

So glad you made this video, so many people think just going to a pet store and buying a critter trail is okay :(

When I was 9 I got my first hamster. Luckily my family had an old 30 gallon tank that was pretty long and I ended up using that instead of buying one of the small cute cages. I wasn't perfect in caring for it, but now that I'm 26 I think back and I'm glad I was at least close in cage size even if I did some other things wrong.

I LOVE MY DIY CAGE! I have multiple hamsters, that live in bin cages, aquariums, and the holy grail... the diy cage. It's over 1200 square inches and is very heavy because it's made out of glass. I got the glass at a thrift store, there were meant to be shelves, and they were only 25 cents each. But my syrian that lives in it is a little greedy so I'm building it a 4 foot by 4 foot cage😁.

I used one of those small wire cages from Walmart for the longest times because my parents thought “ small animal=small cage “

Wow pumpkin is just a little magical creature, so fluffy and cute. What a shame hamsters are illegal in my country ( Australia)

When i got my first hamster (a dwarf)All the info i had came out of a single book i bought at petsmart, which never told me about hibernation. I went away to scout camp, my bedroom got cold and my hamster was lonely from the lack of handling. When i came home she was asleep and i mistaked her for dead. So she got buried. I was very young. RIP Whiskers.

This is a great video! Another point I'd like to add is most of those plastic tunnels that you can get for hamster cages are way too small for Syrian hamsters. The majority of times they are only large enough for dwarf hamster species and syrians can get stuck in them. It's better to just get a very deep bin cage or a glass aquarium and make sure they have enough substrate to burrow their own tunnels. Plastic tunnels are not a substitute for good old-fashioned burrowing
