Ranger Regiment soldier shows off UK military's new KS-1 assault rifle

A soldier from the British Army's Ranger Regiment has talked Forces News through the Armed Forces' latest assault rifle, the Knight's Armament KS-1.

Staff Sergeant Dan Hardingham, 2nd Battalion, Ranger Regiment, said the new Alternative Individual Weapon (AIW) system offers "pretty significant" benefits as he showed it off to Forces News.

The new rifle, designated the L403A1 in British military service, is being used by the Army Special Operations Brigade and Royal Marines.

As an American, I am very happy to see our cousins abroad using this weapon system. While the SA80 served well and has saved countless lives, I think that the UK is doing themselves a favor with this transition.

With an M-Lok fore end, Magpul furniture, suppressor, and improved sighting systems, the UK has definitely upped the game for their Rangers. I am a retired US Marine and I privately owned any an AR15 I think it's the best weapon system out there, when I was in service I never had a problem with it and very accurate. I am so happy my brother in the British military are finally getting them.

Its crazy to think the US Civilian market could singlehandedly be responsible for how this rifle is setup. Because I went to the range the other day and saw maybe 5 rifles that looked like this.

The AR platform has been used for over 60 years. The HK 416 is the best example, but this KA weapon is a great weapon. This rifle will be a great piece of kit for the Brits.

That's definitely one of the nicest AR15 based setups in military use. Those Knights guns run very well suppressed. Just curious though, will that LAM hold zero mounted on the side of an mlok rail like that? Even with a bit of pic rail seems like you'd lose zero pretty easily.
