A tutorial video concerning the combat mechanics in Civilization 5. This video is aimed at brand new Civilization players, but veterans may still profit from this, as combat has changed dramatically between Civ 4 and Civ 5. Part 1 of 6.

ah, civilization, this was awesome in middle school. after playing the Total War franchise this game is hard to stay attached to.

Great video!! It helps a lot for beginners like me :p Are you playing in Warlord mode or Prince? Because the difference between modes is huge, playing in Warlord is quite easy but when I try to play as Prince... the AI always beat me up :(

I created the citadel and surrounded it with forts(with loaded troops).Whoever has the balls to take it on-hats down man. :D you earned my respect.

i do not have problems with my gold because i dont build military units.. i buy them. i just wait and save gold for conflict while focusing on improving my economy....

I always have gold issues with this game, I never have very many military units but I'm always losing gold

I discovered Jets, then the AI discovers a World War 2 Tank. Still fun game though.

I started a world War.

I had 6 civs in my world, The polish, a power house of the time, the chinese, allied with the polish, and the english, allied with me, the russians who were as well allied with me, and the Germans who were neutral.

the polish and I hated eachother, as I took many city state allies from him and recently defeated his ally, the zulus, in conflict. He declared war when I declared my religion to be a world religion in the world congress. because of my alliances, the russians and English joined me to fight against the polish, because of the game mechanics, the Chinese declared war on russia and England to help their polish allies.

the war was a stalemate, as no side could break the other's defensive line. constant artillery strikes did nothing but cause a slight delay in the enemy's forces, and I feared that if this war went on too long, nuclear arms would be discovered and used against us. I could not have that happen. to quickly end the war, I wanted rhe germans to declared war against the polish, for not only it would create a second front, but it would lead the chinese defenseless and surrounded. The germans would not give in, denouncing my allies a few times. Then, after a few turns, the English declared war against the germans, after they tried taking one of their city states, this would put them on the side of the polish. the war went on, and I feared that we might have to give up... that's when we finally discovered nuclear weapons. I called my soldiers to move away from the blast radias, and then fired the first nuke destroying their front line troops and city. This was our chance, and I ordered a fullv invasion into the polish lands. we over ran them, marched all the way to their capital, where they were defeated.

the British and russians marched onto chinese land and took their capital with a few other cities before the chinese gave up. They surrendered to me, giving me a city of theirs.

And the germans gave up after I took one city from them.


So in the end of the day, the chinese were crippled greatly, as their military depleted, the Polish were annexed by me and the english and russians grew twice as much. :)

Lol at 8:28 he said it will nearly be impregnable. At first I thought he said something like being unable to get pregnant. O_o like citadels can have children, what are they forts lol. Anyways, good choice of word, learned a new word ^_^
