I've been EveryDollar for my own personal budget for several months now and it has saved me seveal thousand dollars already and can probably do the same for you. So I'm going to take you inside my own budget in a second and walk you through each of the menus but as the name suggests, the whole concept here is giving every single dollar a purpose which is known as zero base budgeting and this is a budgeting strategy that many of every dollar’s competitors also use and an budgeting approach that I think is really effective.

I wanna be clear that this doesn't mean that you have $0.00 at the end of the month all it means is not only are you intentionally setting money aside for your rent and food and other essential expenses but you're also intentionally setting money aside for savings, your emergency fund, your investments and that sort of thing. The good news is that every dollar is completely free you can download it on your phone and start using it no problem. However like I said there is a premium version of every dollar which is currently $80 per year and this allows you to connect to over 10,000 banks and other financial institutions so that your transactions automatically sync with the every dollar app and as I'll show you in a second I think that that is well worth it.

Ramsey solutions has clearly spent a lot of money developing the app and since the last time I used it several years ago it is seen some pretty major improvements that in my opinion have pushed it well beyond its competition. Plus there customer service is great in my experience and they literally recoded a section of the app and issued an update when I brought a syncing feature to their attention with my SoFi savings vaults. It is going to take some time to learn and your first few budgets are probably going to suck for a number of reasons but the ability to create a budget from my smartphone and simply drag and drop auto synced transactions to make sure I'm staying on track means that this is not only a painless budgeting method but honestly it's kind of fun as well.

I actually just tried Rocket Money and honestly I think I prefer it over the other ones. It’s super clean and has all the same functionality. I’ve tried so many like Mint and Monarch etc, Rocket Money is clean.

Hi can you please go in-depth on Every Dollar and YNAB? More importantly I’m very curious HOW you use budget app with SOFI considering all the SOFI vaults. Thank you.

Tried to use every dollar and try out their free trial. After inputting all the information, I was unable to get into the app saying connection issues and then tried to log in on computer and nothing even though I used password manager so wasnt as I inputted the wrong thing, even requesting a reset of password didn't work. Not sure if it was just me or if this happened to anyone. Seemed decent and just wanted to see how well it integrated with banks to see if I could do better as this but if every dollar won't allow after 3 days of unable to use out of the 14 day trial is a waste. Just cancelled so I won't be charged after trial and will have to wait to see about this one as it is giving issues currently.

Is there a step by step tutorial to show you how to set up and use the EveryDollar desktop app? Can you provide link as I can't seem to find one . Thanks!

I appreciate your opinion and review, but will disagree that EveryDollar is better than YNAB. YNAB is $20/year more and from what I can see on the reporting differences, that alone would be worth it. YNAB also has a longer free trial period (34 days) and even offers students 12 months free on top of the 34 day free trial.

Only thing that made me choose YNAB over EveryDollar is how each app treats credit cards. I love YNAB’s credit card payment feature, which let’s me use my credit cards to accrue cash back while staying within my budget. On the other hand, EveryDollar is made by Ramsey so it demonizes credit cards. I remember having to use loopholes and a separate checking account just to be able to use credit cards, so YNAB is better for me.

I use mint and every dollar together in paid version you have to wait over 2 days to transaction to show which is not good but in mint app it shows almost instantly .. second left to budget section is lie even in month you went over your income it’s in red line it still says left to budget even though I overspend this month already.. idk why they don’t fix this simple thing ..

I still don’t quite understand what to do with the “green” credit card payments that show up as income, when it was a credit card payment of a previous expense for groceries. Do I just track the grocery expenses that were paid using a credit card as normal, then delete the green “income “ that reveals itself?

Just getting started seems daunting. I'd be interested in the desktop version. How do you go about getting started and gathering all of the past information on what you spent, which will include thing that are not necessarily monthly such as insurance, auto care, escrow shortage, property taxes, gifts.... This is holding me back!

I’m confused with the savings fund section. After we set the goal amount and the planned amount we are putting towards it for the month. De we need to enter the amount we put towards it??? I’ve been plugging in the amounts, but it’s increasing the remaining. Or just leave it alone?

Please make in depth tutorial! I've heard that the bank connection is a little messy in terms of showing transactions twice.
