I've looked around, lost loved ones and I've thought about this idea too. The Gnostics believed there is a false god which made this universe and a true god. And this one we got let me tell you. Look at all this suffering. Not so crazy to believe is at best indifferent and at worst evil.

I'm not at all religious but from personal experiences and observation of the state of most human lives and the world in general, I am increasingly drawn to the beliefs of the Cathars and Gnostics, who believed that the physical world is indeed evil and ruled by an evil demigod, that we really belong to an ultimately non-physical realm of pure knowledge and understanding, not necessarily a "heaven" or Buddhist Nirvana but an infinitely preferable state of being than to life on this planet with all it's sorrows, suffering and injustices.

If god existed as the all-knowing entity many believe him to be, it seems he ximply chooses to allow evil in the universe even though his all-knowingness would allow him to prevent it. What possibly could be the reason behind his creations suffering? To teach them some cosmic lesson? Why not create them with all such knowledge in the first place? But ive always believed that the "logic" of religion is basically "bend over and spread'em cuz her it comes!"

I do believe in God, but I also believe he is not what they say he is. He is not all merciful, caring and loving the way the Bible describes him. There is a lot more to him than we know.
