The energy of these guys can best be described like this:
"I love the Emperor's new clothes. They're so beautiful. What? That child said he's naked? Burn the child! He's a witch!"

When I was a Christian, I wondered how there could be a being of absolute good... and one of absolute evil. It seemed like a being of absolute good shouldn't lose his temper... ever. The evil one shouldn't be capable of doing anything good... yet the Satan described in the Bible doesn't seem like a being of absolute evil... just someone who argues with God.

"Natural selection's not concerned with categories of evil." Correct.

I see no evidence that the universe cares even a little bit if something "bad" happens to me, or anyone else. A worldview does not suddenly become inconsistent because it fails to give one the warm fuzziest.

“God designed us, so he chose to design us so that we couldn’t understand his reasons”

Woah. Never thought about that.

Evil things one can do with money? Such as demanding your congregation pays tithes they cannot afford so that you can buy a second private jet?

Not only is Finland the happiest country, they also have great sounding railroad crossings that sound like cow bells. I don't know why, but I find it so satisfying that the bells on opposite sides of the crossing never ring at the same time.

"Their god is a Mary Sue" is behind the need for so many Christian apologetics!

In Catholic grade school we used to take up collections among the children for unused lunch money to go to MotherTerasa. That was until about 1981 when a story broke about what her “hospitals/clinics” actually did, and where the money that she made went. The Dominican nuns refused to back her after that. Those hospitals had no medication, not because they couldn’t afford it but because the idea wasn’t to heal the sick. It was to give the poor a place where they could suffer and die with dignity while being prayed over…..nothing more.

People who defend Mother Teresa are taking the side of those who dehumanize.

My biggest problem with the problem of evil is that a lot of the excuses/solutions people give to justify "evil" with an omni-benevolent god can be used to just the same effect to justify "good" existing with an omni-malevolent one which, essentially, makes the argument useless.

The problem of evil isn't an argument against gods, it's just pointing out that the description of the _christian_ god is self contradicting and thus _that_ specific defined god can't exist.

The parent analogy breaks down when he is forced to acknowledge that my son at very least is aware that I exist, it is overtly clear that I exist and that I am giving him an instruction, it is also overtly clear, even to him, that he needs his mother and I in order to survive and that learning to live with us and where the boundaries are is in his best interests. With God it's all cryptic ancient books that are open to interpretation, I have never interacted with any kind of God, I am unsure what he wants of me, I am unsure whether he is rewarding or punishing me for something (he doesn't tell me what I've done right/wrong or that what happened was down to him) so I cannot adjust. His punishments are overly harsh and often lethal, then he sends you to hell- definitely evil. At least my 3 year old son knows he is loved and knows that his caregivers exist.

My doubts increased when I went into the Navy at 17 and discovered many things which contradicted what I was told as a child, eventually leading me to a reboot which did not include Christianity. I entered the Navy out of desperation because the matriach of the family died and my mother had mental issues affecting her ability to support the family. Since death and biology, including brain disorders, are god's design, it could be said that god's flawed designs were causal factors in my doubt.

God putting the tree of the fruit of knowledge in the middle of the Garden of Eden was literally the same thing as someone asking their dog to watch their delicious sandwich while they go to the kitchen to get a drink they forgot to grab. Wtf did they expect to happen 🤣

The parent analogy breaks down on the fact that not everyone is a good parent or capable of being a good parent. Ask anyone who has worked in an ER or in Child Protective Service.

Mother Teresa said "Suffering is a gift from God". Stupidity is a dangerous thing!

My out-of-the-blue guess is that neither of these Christians have ever spent any time at all in a children's cancer hospital. If they had and they are sane humans they probably would not be so cheerful about suffering.
Thank you VR for another excellent video and good to see you again.

Ah, yes...the story of Job. When I first heard the story as a kid, I was horrified. I thought, "Wow! God sucks. I don't want anything to do with this crap."

The tale was supposed to inspire faith. It did the exact opposite.

Divine hiddeness is hilarious, like you said; God seems to have become less and less active (pretty much non-existent) as our ability to scrutinise his "work" as time go on.
