Woman at center of Laguna Beach property dispute served with citation

The woman who was caught on camera roping off a section of coastline in Laguna Beach has been issued a notice of violation by the California Coastal Commission. Mike Rogers reports.

What she doesn't seem to understand is, her house is located on the beach, the beach is not located on her property.

I feel terrible for that little kid who was just out there there with his Mom trying to enjoy the beach. That homeowner is a terrible, nasty person.

This issue was well settled decades ago in Malibu and other areas where the rich and elite think they "own" the beach. Barbara Streisand, Martin Sheen and others put up chain link fences from the sidewalk access points, down to the beach, claiming that people were "trespassing". The town politicians, all buddies of theirs, failed to act when locals complained. But the coastal commission, once again, came and cut the fences down. When some put them back up, they got citations, that if they blocked access again, they would be arrested, famous or not, rich or poor. The same statement was made, "there are no private beaches in California".

Kudos to the California Coastal Commission!! Kudos to that mom that walked away with her dignity and kept her son safe. Crushing to see that bright little boy walking away from a beautiful beach day. 😢

So, until Sept, a month later or just about the end of the summer, she can continue to mark the beach as her private property? The order should make the compliance immediate with immediate fine.
