The little rubber piece was developed in 2015 by OPSol Texas. Its called the Flex Adapter. Unlike the 590S, the Flex Adapter shortens the receiver opening, creating a mini receiver for mini shells.
If you rack hard, under the strain of protecting your home, and with gun held in different positions like vertical, any shotgun receiver will allow the minishells to rattle around, flip, etc.
That excess room has to be eliminated, and that's what the Flex Adapter does.
