I live at 8000 ft near Colorado Springs. 2 tips I can offer. 1) Expect flight time to be shorter. Higher altitude = thinner air = more hp to keep your drone up. Keep an eye on how much battery you have left and err on the side of caution. 2) Attach some color to your drone. A steel gray drone in a steel gray sky. One moment you have it in your sights, one blink and it's gone. Landing lights are good, but paracord can work in a pinch. Just make sure it won't interfere with the propellers or any other flight function. Happy flying.

I’m loving the air 2s just like you are. I find up here in Canada, the cold weather with my iPhone. I need to always turn on phone charging so the phone doesn’t glitch out. Otherwise the cold is fine with the air 2s. Thanks for all your videos, you’ve really helped my flying technique and business.

In minus temperatures, humidity plays a big role because too foggy weather can lead to icing of the propellers. I advise you to check the condition of the propellers more often than usual (at temperatures below zero) I know from experience that the equipment usually senses a lot of icing and starts an emergency landing.

Aldryn, Excellent tips and suggestions for flying in cold weather and higher base altitudes. Most definitely keeping your batteries warm and expecting lower flight times. I do appreciate your suggestions of switching over to spot mode, I hadn’t thought about that and the adjustment of controls settings. Thank you for these helpful suggestions and those who have commented who live in these conditions👍👍

Glad you made up to Breck for some boarding! I live in Colorado and those were all great tips and have always used them. One thing with my Air 2 is that I thought if you switch to sport mode obstacle avoidance is turned off or am I confusing that with one of the other DJI drones I've owned the Phantom 3, 4, Mavic Pro, Mini and now the Air 2.

I just took advantage of DJI's reduced price on the Air 2S with Smart Controller...my first drone. Thanks for this and your other video on cold weather. I live in the Colorado mountains at 7, 640' and it's an issue. 😉

In Utah I fly everyday at 6, 100 ft. And in the winter it’s cold. Good adjustments are key. Great video.

Keep batteries warm
I’ve had the same thing happen with the sensors in bigger flakes snow

Welcome to Colorado. Hope you had a great experience! I live close to Breckenridge. Gloves... we don't need no stinking gloves...Lol On the mountain passes, we launch at 14, 000 ft.

I live in Ohio where the weather is very unpredictable as in if you don't like the weather wait 10 minutes it will change, check the weather report to know what the weather is going to be for that day flying in spring is a crazy one especially with April showers and along with that weather report always take a look at the allergy index with it never know if pollen is going to be in the Drone

The standard temperature change rate is 2 degrees per thousand feet. Excellent tip on keeping batteries warm becaise they will definitely be cooler at higher altitudes. 👊

I live in NE Pa it gets cold I keep my batteries in a cooler to keep them warm or in my pockets if I am shooting for a. short time.

Great video! Very helpful for me also, as I'll be moving very close to Breckenridge in the next 9-12 months or so (at ~9000ft).

Good video. Air 2S has a max above sea level of 16000 feet. I personally use the 80% rule when working with tolerances on things and won't push more than 80% of somethings ability. That would put you a bit over 12k feet. I'm sure that if you would have adjusted some of the settings in normal mode you would have flown pretty well. The air gets thin up there and the props aren't designed for that thin air. Even many helicopters have limits when flying over the Sierra Nevada due to their blade pitch. Nice to see the smaller drone can handle its limits.
