cats don't have separation anxiety like dogs do. Dogs wait by the door for you to come home. Show excited when you return. Cats are a take it or leave it. Dogs will sit and wait for the owner to return
cats will go fend for themselves if food is not forthcoming. that is, if they can still go outdoors

I know my cat missed me. My parents would tell me they would see him walking around the house and going up and down the stairs looking for me and meowing for me to come back. He would always be laying on the couch waiting for me when I got home from late shifts
