Absolutely. I’ve worn my first suit a few times as-is, but only after alterations the sleeves were the correct length.

Yep... Take a few months of practice and one can even learn to do non-invasive alterations themselves like pant length, waist diameter and torso diameter. The more unlined, the easier. The closer the fit, the less work and higher likelihood of getting good results. Surgeon cuffs are cool and all but are the one thing that stands in the way of getting a quick and easy sleeve length alteration.

Agreed. I had my newest blazer altered three times just to get the perfect look until I was satisfied. Don’t like pocket squares though😂

I was very confused by the title as I read it as shorts was the thing your suit definitely needs.

Yes! Shopping for a suit is more fun when you can get something that's a bit too large in some way and then just alter it to fit.

I had my eye set on a suit where my normal size was a bit too tight around the calves, and the larger size was too loose around the waist. Was convinced to get the looser fit, the store took my measurements and gave me a note to bring to a tailor about how much to alter the waist - now it's the best fitting suit I ever owned.

MIGHT have been able to find an off the rack suit with the same pefect fit without alterations but it would take so long and might not be the fabric I like. j

For some reason, I do not receive any notifications for shorts. 😔

I lost weight over the last several months, it's time to take my suit pants to the tailor and get them altered.

Fit is king…I’ve seen plenty of men’s suits on men that look non tailored, bad. However most men do not know what a good tailored suit looks like. That’s the issue. And today department stores do not have tailors. They might know how to trim pant legs length but that is it. Go to a full blown menswear store.

Hey! anyone please advise me, I am in bulking mode and currently going for a custom suit. Should I deliberately allow my tailor to loose a few inches, so that it would fit later on, or just go with my current fit?

Made to measure is the best way to buy a cheap suit and look good in it. I rather pay 500 euro for a MTM than 200 + 100 extra for alterations and look meh
