If you are running a toaster pc like me. Here is my experience with FPS

1. Mastercomfig Medium high, medium, and medium low has little to none fps difference. If you want smoothness, pure low settings is a requirement.

2. Some huds are actual fps boosters, depending on your cpu and gpu brands, just trial and error which gives you the most frames.

3. If you're running a config that still has hats enabled. Disable hats mod will severely improve FPS. Instead of hesitating cuz of cosmetics, it never hurts to try before you make a judgement.

4. Depending on your cpu/gpu brand, some configs such as m0re fps, comanglia, or mastercomfig can perform better than the other, just trial and error which gives you better performance.

5. Sell your toaster pc for a decent price, so that you have a budget to get a new one. Overtime TF2 will get more and more unoptimized. One day, getting better hardware will be your only option.

Hey Optive, just wanted to let ya know that you really helped me a ton, I had my tf2 overloaded with like 8 different graphic configs and decided for a clean slate, just as your video popped up.

2500+ Hours here, and I ran on a potato for most of those hours, so just chucked config that made it look like 1993 Doom. Now, I got a beast PC but I don't get totally consistent high frames, even with medium configs. The Nvidia stuff and Windows settings were new to me since I've never had a Windows 10 before or a GPU like this. I'm looking forward to trying out benchmarking and thanks for this video in general! It will help me alot.

I will always say that a game's optimization should never require modding outside of preferential HUD stuff, but as TF2 falls into that unfortunate category of needing community intervention, this type of video is wonderful for helping the community (although, hopefully, one day, Valve will buckle down and work on TF2's optimization, or at the very least make the stuff configs do as basic as ticking different options in advanced options, but I'm rambling about pipe dreams)

In nvidia control panel you actually want 'low latency mode' set to "on" for tf2 becuase it doesn't max out the gpu like the games that "ultra" setting is intended for. I've removed prec from my custom folder download as it crashes the game instantly if you manage to get a comp matchmaking game, and I want people to be able to play that

1:51 it highlights your teammates direction and gives you a ping when a teammate has reached that percentage of their max HP. Its pretty useful but can get overwhelming to a new medic. I started with mine at 25% and gradually worked my way up to 60%. I'm now a fairly decent med main xD

I remember when I was like 11 I tried to optimize tf2 by messing around with settings and changing random shit to things I thought sounded good. I ended up making the game run slower and I cried for an hour.

If this video existed at that time, 11 year old me would've been so happy, you make everything so easy to understand.

Thanks for this video, it really helped a lot. I've been suffering with the problem of recurring lag and lagspikes in tf2 and this video managed to almost neutralize my problems, i've never played tf2 with a consistent 120 fps before. back then i'd be playing a max of around 40 fps even with very bad graphics setting and i have a good enough laptop, it's crazy how effective it is although i'll still have a slight bit of lagspike but it doesn't hinder as much as before. And thanks again, you really are a life saver.

Just as a little heads-up. The built-in demo recorder for TF2 works just fine for recording every game you join into, even single-player. The problem is it doesn't let your customize the demo name as much as PREC does, so be weary.
