I bought an AD18 about a month ago now. I use it as an upgrade for my computer sound system...and it ROCKS! All I've got for speakers is a pair of old Kenwood (KS-706HT) bookshelves that I bought at Goodwill and a pair of Marley headphones. VAST improvement over my old sound system.

The coax input is dual purpose, with an optical mini plug sensor added. The “extra” menu choice switches between the coax and optical functions of the dual function plug.

The Optical 1 is actually an optical input. It's a 3.5mm Mini-Toslink, and can be used with an adapter if all you have is a normal Toslink. The port does also doubles as a coaxial input.

Great review, thx. Was debating a lot for either getting this amp or going for a vintage amp, in the end got a 20 kilo pioneer, A-717. But if I had watched you review earlier - might have picked the smsl...

The holes for connecting speaker wires are VERTICAL. It’s so difficult to put wire tips into the holes and screw the caps. Volume range is 0-60 and it always reset to 20 after unplugging the power. For durability concerns I better disconnect its power when I am not using it.

Does it works with a 100W 6 ohm speakers? I have a pair of old Sony's that survived my mini Stereo Sony MHC 3800. I'm using them on my PC with the SB creative 6700 inspire 6.1 set

Good review. My 7.1 Pioneer Elite receiver costs $2000.00 new. For 140 bucs I couldn't care less about the remote, if anyone does...REALLY!? If it works well and sounds even half decent it's a good buy.

Thanks for clarifying that it doesn't auto switch outputs, that's a deal breaker for me, since I'm looking for an all-in-one solution (SP/HP DAC/Amp) for my PC. I'm also looking at the Topping MX3, which supposedly does auto switch. Keep in mind that unfortunately it doesn't mute the sub out with HP, no idea what they were thinking.

Just ordered this amp to pair it with a pair of KEF's 100, in case i want to add a subwoofer later, does it have to be a powered one? This will be my first setup and im really excited. Thanks!
