Japan’s Secret to Long Life

Some of the world’s oldest people have lived on the Japanese island of Tokunoshima. What’s their secret? A local distiller would have you believe drinking brown sugar shochu—a spirit brewed on the island—played a role in their longevity. Alcohol that makes you live longer? We’ll drink to that.

Okinawa is an island about 75 miles south of here and also boasts long life. Many articles and videos promote the local purple sweet potato. GBS needs to take another trip back to southern Japan for further investigation. 👍

Green tea, in my opinion is one of the biggest factors for having a long life. One of my favorite drinks and it's really good for you.

Japan is the most peaceful, respectful, clean country I have ever been.

I wish I knew the language more cause this place I would not mind living at.

No stress at all lol.

It’s social interaction. They did a study in a small Italian town with high life expectancy. Not alcohol

If alcohol makes you live longer my uncle is basically immortal.

It's more about their diet and lifestyle.

Alcohol isn't the thing making you live longer since the people in that very specific island with their own specific lifestyle aren't the only ones drinking alcohol and we see that the same thing isn't happening outside that place.

Correlation ≠ Causation

I think the community aspect and regular access to genuine human connection may also be a big factor. Drinking sochu looks like a pretty social thing to do

"would have you believe" is the right phrasing there.

I am confused. As far as i have studied, alcohol does anything but make you live longer. To me it seems like an ad.
