The D-Day invasion of Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944, was a critical part of Operation Overlord, the Allied assault on Nazi-occupied France. Operation Fortitude, a deception plan, successfully misled German forces into expecting attacks elsewhere, catching Field Marshal Erwin Rommel off guard and ensuring that defences at Normandy were not at full strength. The brutal and costly battle at Omaha Beach resulted in significant Allied casualties but ultimately led to a crucial foothold in Europe. Today, the Normandy American Cemetery honours the thousands of American soldiers who died during the invasion, while the German War Cemetery at La Cambe serves as the final resting place for many German soldiers who fell during the battle and subsequent fighting.

Poor yanks, they refused to listen to more experienced British/Canadian/Anzac troops, they had no idea what HELL they were going experience, the germans had a turkey shoot ( u.s saying) the allies were waiting for the yanks to get off the beaches, blame the generals, 😢
