Sir Tom's grandfather was killed in WW1 - so this is from the heart. Well done, Sir

Tom Jones is the only singer who could sing this beautiful tribute to the fallen and the wounded soldiers, who fought bravely so we could live in peace🤟🤟

I got such a lump in my throat when Tom Jones sang that poignant song.

My father was a Bomber Pilot, flying Lancasters.
He died at 97, two years ago.
He never missed a Veterans Remembrance service & he also marched proudly in his uniform with other veterans on those Remembrance days.

I had 6 family members who served in WW2 & my Mother’s eldest brother was killed as a Fighter Pilot in Italy.

A Grandfather who lost his right arm in Ypres in WW1

He watched his 4 eldest sons go off to war.
A daughter who served in the WAAFS to support her brothers.

One family that sacrificed like so many to give us our freedom.
Thank you all brave Veterans.

This song is very personal to Sir Tom, he recorded it in memory of his late wife who was keen to ensure that he wasn't defeated by grief but would carry on without crumbling because of their love. Its a song of grief and loss full of the practical necessity to keep on putting one foot in front of the other, and breathing - both are big asks requiring courage when one is grieving a loved one or a comrade. A true Welsh heart, great delivery backed by an army band, emotional.

Beautiful. Those brave men were just like you and me. What a dreadful time they had in their lives.

My friend just sent me this link. He knows my dad landed on Omaha Beach along with the 1st wave. He was in the 147th combat engineers, 6th engineers special brigade. I put a flag on his grave as I do every anniversary of D-Day. Thank you Tom Jones for this moving tribute to The Greatest Generation.
