For people learning to sharpen blades like this it is helpful to color the edge in with a sharpie so it’s really obvious that you’ve got the correct angle across the edge. Especially helpful when sharpening a blade with a file.

Just sharpened the blades on both my mowers (4 blades) this past weekend with a flap disk and used a nail to check balance. We always use the flap disk for sharpening. Works fast!

Good job my friend. Always make sure blade is clean and Years ago I bought a balancer that fits up through center hole. I have a spare set that I've sharpened and balanced that way I take dull ones off, put sharpened set on

Good job. Personally I wouldn’t worry about divots. Just leave them. But if they annoy you go for it. Thanks for the video.

Yes. Flap disc will do it. But they wear out too fast, if you are sharpening a lot of blades. So, I went back to a standard medium grit grinding disc.
He is right about balancing the blade. The end that drops is heavy, so sharpen that end until the blade balances.
You can get a very good edge with a grinding disc just take your time and try to hold the angle grinder at the same angle for each pas by bracing it against your body. Just be careful to not put too much pressure on each pass or you’ll get the blade too hot turning it blue. Also put the blade in a vice, make sure it’s level and no more than four or five of the inches extending from the vice jaws, to hold the blade preventing flexion of the blade.
I grind off/out most of the nicks and keep the edge uniform, the same width all the way from the end to where the edge ends. I also blend the edge at the end so as to not have a step in the blade. One more thing, once you have your blade sharpened flip the blade over and flatten the backside of the edge on each end. This will give you that sharp edge you are looking for. Geez, who’d thought there would be so much to sharping a lawn mower blade! But your lawn will look like a carpet!

Thanks, I plan on doing as well. Mostly cause I let It grow. After watching this I know a little bit more than before. I was going to grind it and send it.

Flap disks are a must. Great for so many different applications. I keep a few 40, 60, and 1 or 2 80's.

Thank you for that last part. I never thought about that. An uneven removal would mess with balance real bad.

Been doing this for years now and it works great every time

I use the red Makita 4.5" grinding wheels. They cut through steel like butter

Love the tip about hanging it to check balance!

The best way to deal with nicks is to grind the edge flat first and then grind with the angle (moving in one direction) until the factory edge angle and edge is restored. What you do to one side has to be done to the other, avoid rounding the angles and do not make the blade sharper than the original factory edge.
