WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NESS and LUCAS PSI MAGNET? - Lucas in Smash Ultimate

Pk fire pk thunder and psi magnet are all moves lucas and ness both possess in smash ultimate. Whats the difference between them? Who uses the move the best?

Ness' psi magnet did get really buffed in this game. His psi magnet used to do no damage to people if they were standing it in previous Smash games which sort of made Lucas' better, but not buy much. Now it always does damage as long as you keep holding the button, unlike Lucas' where you have to time it in order to hope that your opponent gets caught in that tiny hitbox. Not to mention that Ness' has always had better protection because it encapsulates his whole body, so you can't take damage from energy based projectiles from behind like Lucas can. personally love Lucas but feel Ness is better but I'm still going to main Lucas because I like the play style better

Nice Video! I do agree that Ness's Magnet is better. Ness has a great Combo game, but Lucas is a very good spacer

Most people seem to say ness is better but I think they are about the same, he just has better representation. I feel like Lucas has a higher skill cap with all his complicated tech such as djcz and other movement options. Ness pk fire is op when it hits but easy to see coming and shield or get out of the way. Lucas pk fire is a way better zoning tool. Honestly, I think they are about equally as good since ness has better moves too (bair and nair for example). Lucas is has two spikes, up airs combos, and dair loops, so I’d say he’s cooler....no bias whatsoever...

I think Lucas and Ness both have their strength. Ness can play more agreesive while Lucas can play extra defensive. Honestly I prefer Agressive Play, so thats why I play Ness. But I love watching Top teir Lucas Play like Blucas all the reverses and mix-ups Lucas has.

Btw i found a way to practice mashing.

Go to training mode, choose final destination, choose lucas (both you and the cpu have to be lucas), set the cpu on neutral special, turn on stalling, set your damage % to 80%, roll to the other side of the stage and then try to mash out of pk freeze.

Of course if you can mash faster than 80% you can always give yourself more percent.

I managed to mash out of it at 80% with only the ABY buttons.

You can do this method with any character but i chose lucas because it would take a lot out of you if you had to test it with every character.

It's true, Lucas' sucks. that's why they need to stop letting that tiny spark be the hitbox and bring back the entire blue orb being the hitbox like it used to be.
One of few things that is good is that Lucas' psi shield heals more, but it doesn't even matter because the best and biggest heals cap at 30% health for both Ness and Lucas. So for the smaller % heals Lucas gets more health back. Anything big Ness and Lucas will heal the same.

Lucas his magnet hitbox is harder to hit because not only is the hitbox small, it is also slow(frame 19) and the windbox makes it even harder to hit.

Also ness can use his magnet on energyprojectiles with a physical hit at the start because of the hitbox on his magnet, but lucas has to space his magnet or grab the projectile before absorbing it and the lag of piking up the projectile can get you hit by it.

The windbox is only good for some ledgetraps and some recoveries but even then it’s situational.

The windbox can also mess you up when you’re in a juggle situation (for example chrom uses up-air to juggle you but you manage to dodge it with a wavebounce magnet and you still get hit by the up-air because of the windbox).

Lucas is a late meta character with a higher reward. He requires on-point execution to shine the most. Ness is solid regardless.


Right now, I'd say they're even. In the future, Lucas will become better.

Given that claus is the twin of Lucas, it would appear that his moves would be the same, however during the mother series he was brainwashed into becoming the masked boy, which in that state, he was stronger than his other half.

Ness' magnet is combo/defensive, Lucas' magnet is a kill move. It has higher base knockback and knockback scaling than Falcon's Knee. EDIT: Oh snap! THAT'S WHY IT SUCKS IN! SO IT CAN CONFIRM BETTER!
