The comments remind me of back when digital started to gain traction and hardcore photographers stuck on film had dismissive, arrogant attitudes because digital was still new and lacking.

They felt threatened by new technology and couldn't see the potential for future innovation and here we are, the rest is history.

I have been buying long lenses ( zoom ) used. They were originally $1000 to $5000. But, since they are 20 years old they cost $75. They still work and the optics are noticably better than $75 lenses that are Brand New.. I have not done this yet for cell phones but for surveillance cameras. The same would apply to cell phones. And you might already have a lens that you own ( like for a film camera from years ago )

As an amateur photographer I have various lenses laying around, and we all have smartphones. How awesome would be to be able to attach any lens to any smartphone and use them to get different angles whether they are on tripods or assistants?

Way more interested in the actual smartphone mount than the lens one. Looks like a Pixel Addix Cinema Mount but those can't be found anywhere anymore (or at least for a decent price). Any suggestions where to get one?

It still has a tiny smartphone sensor. The mount can be used for more optical zoom only. In a digital photography the sensor matters the most and then come the lenses.

These "dof adapters" were actually a thing not too long ago used for camcorders with built in zoom lenses like Canon Vixia, Panasonic HM150, Sony HC1, to get depth of field out of them by connecting a second lens.

Your cameras lens is focused on a glass/plastic that displays a projection of the lens connected to the adapter.. Image would be projected upside down. Some had/have a motor to spin the plastic so that the texture of its grain isnt static.
